People’s committee to bust corruption

BANGKOK: -- The Justice Ministry yesterday launched a national ‘people’s committee’ to assist the Anti Money Laundering Office (AMLO) in its fight against corruption.

Justice Minister Suwat Liptapanlop, who unveiled the pilot scheme, said that the committee would initially be composed of four members of the public from Bangkok and one from each of the nation’s remaining 75 provinces, together with another 32 experts, youth representatives and people working in professions relating to beating corruption.

The committee will supplement the work of AMLO, as well as monitor its work, and disseminate information to the public.

Members of the committee, who will only receive basic expenses for attending committee meetings, will meet for the first time on 23 June.
