Thailand, but not Phuket, in lockdown

PHUKET: -- The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) has imposed emergency law in 15 more provinces in the central, northern and northeastern parts of Thailand, CRES spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.

Phuket, however, is not on the list of affected provinces and remains calm, as it has been since the red-shirt demonstrations began two months ago.

The 2nd and 3rd region Army commanders are in charge of maintaining order in the affected provinces.

Phuket airport is open to both domestic and international flights and is operating normally.

Meanwhile, AFP reports that the United States yesterday closed its embassy in Bangkok and said it was "very concerned" about the violence between the Thai government and the protesters there.

As pointless newspaper articles go this is up there with the most pointless of the lot.

Isn't Phuket a separate country. :)

So Pukhet is a haven of calm in a raging storm of turmoil elsewhere in Thailand?

Life goes in here in SiSaket province - no turmoil that I can detect apart from soi dog fights. No murders no tourist suicides no aggresive tuk tuk drivers. Hand me another Lao Khao please.

Phuket, however, is not on the list of affected provinces and remains calm,

:) Err..did we already forget about the bomb planted at in Phuket Town office of a the PAD leaders company the other day?
