Red Shirts in Udon Thani seized the old City Hall and have burned it down.

More peaceful democrazy protestors. The Thai government should rebuild and take the amount out of Thaksin's siezed illgotten gain. This would frost his balls. Karma in action.

Is Amnesty International going to issue any more press releases, when police/army execute these thugs now?

I wonder...

AI's reaction was all knee jerk. The same idiocy from the right and left. They didn't bother to really examine the specific situation here. To them, protesters GOOD, government BAD, that's their universal formula.

Looks like this is very very far from over.

Central world, Paragon, MRT, other important buildings are on fire.

Tire fires. They are acting out like spoiled babies. In Bangkok, the main event IS over.

unfortunately real fires and grenades are thrown into these venues.

That's very bad if they destroy property but at least the casualties have been kept much lower than anyone expected. If they do burn the malls, it will be even harder to restore tourism. Yes, tourists love those mall areas in Bangkok.

I don't know about you guys, but I consider "over" when I can say that BKK is safe like it was before all of this madness.

TAN: INN: Dindaeng red-shirt protesters announce independence from main gathering and said it will hunt down members of the press

BBC & CNN are you getting this? Amnesty International, what have you got to say now?

Exactly

Any speculation as to why they want to hunt down members of the press?

Their entire agenda depended on them controlling the press.

1) Provoke Gov't to having to respond

2) When gov't responds with force show themselves as peaceful and the gov't out of control and unable to control

3) Demand immediate PM resignation and house dissolution

4) Step in with their own leaders to fill the void in power

Note they rarely ever mentioned elections but were obsessed with house dissolution and in fact in their last proposal didn't even want elections for 2 months after dissolution.

Expect to see some MPs shown to be involved in this master plan.

IMO anyway.

Of course the Thai army, with all its weaponry and armour, can win this battle, much to the delight of all the armchair warriors in this forum.

However, winning this battle via more bloodshed in no way means winning the war. Driving the conflict underground presents some really awful possibilities for the whole of the country.

Before he earn the title of 'war criminal', Abhisit should have a long and hard think about the mess that he has helped to create. Negotiation really is the only way to solve this, and it may indeed cost him his precious job. It may also mean that he can't preside over the upcoming budget, and that his buddy Prayuth misses out on his chance to become the army chief when Anupong's tenure expires later this year.

Abhisit needs to get his priorities in order. He has turned into another Thaksin, with too many people hating him for there ever to be peace under hs rule.

Wow, I am impressed. For the fun of it, what was IQ score last time you toke the test??????

Yeah. That's a good idea. Let the thugs come out and force elections. They'd be really free and fair then too, because ofcourse, the thugs wouldn't threaten anyone to vote any particular way.

Yay for RED DEMOCRACY :)

I suggest contacting Amnesty International yourselves and call upon them to condemn the redshirt violence, particularly the attacks on the media which is in effect an attack on freedom of speech.

I can't imagine any sane person believes it would be in the countries best interest to give into the will of those who you even seem to say are violent law breakers and murderers.

Edit: Would you happen to be French? (JK but that would be a typical response from many of my fellow Americans)

RT @RichardBarrow: Thai military to impose curfew on Bangkok tonight. /via @markmackinnon
2 minutes ago via web

absolute necessary. should have happened earlier though.

IMO, Abhisit has played this almost perfectly given who he has had to fight internally and externally. But in reference to this one comment ... he has not imposed or done much until close to the last possible minute for many reasons. Although sad, he just couldn't have done more sooner without having the gov't collapse because of the Thaksin paid PR machine which has done a great job of making this violent illegal red mob look peaceful to some regardless of every thing that have done and the fact they hold hostage billions of dollars in both private and public property.

Even with Abhisit's ability to get many to leave the fortress and have red leaders themselves turn themselves in and call for an end to the mob ... we are still going to face the likely hood of much of that part of they city being reduced to ashes.

Had he had troops move in earlier the same thing would have resulted but many many more dead and his gov't being accused of genocide. Sadly it has taken until now to allow the reds shirts to show their true colors in terms of being a violent lawless terrorist bunch whose only goal was to bring down the government and then fill the void with their own people.
Great post!

Red-leader Jatuporn Promphan to Turn Himself In

UPDATE : 19 May 2010

Reports indicate that key leader of the red-shirt movement Jatuporn Promphan is expected to turn himself in at the National Police Office.

Key Pheu Thai Party MPs will act as witnesses to ensure the safety of the red-shirt leader.

You better do it, son. That's how many... 1 out of 6 or 7 current leaders???. I don't recall.

:)

Now what??? Veera and Weng too? So the tanks and the military have won. For sure it didn't win heart and mind of the rural poor and red shirts supporters. Is Abphisit now cancelling his promise of new election in November? Because he has now "Phuyai" in the army backing him???

Abphisit better make it clear to the general public asap if he still holding on his promise. It won't take long before the Reds find new leaders and regroup again in months and a year ahead. Al least the Reds have shown what they can inflict the government. They have the rest of the country behind them.

What utter cr-p.

Hardly anyone supports the reds now. Nobody knows what they want.

Are you going to tell us?

BTW, Abhisit's generous offer for elections on Nov14 was declined by the reds. Fools.

now the question is whether what we are seeing is the last violent twitching of a dead Red corpse.

or whether the baton has passed from the political wing to the military wing of that movement.

and a vision of things to come.

Sometimes Amnesty gets it right as even a broken clock is right twice a day BUT aren't they in the business of only representing criminals? Have they ever condemned the actions of a group of people hurting lawful authorities?

Brother Dan Rivers and Sister Sarah Snider are probably hold up in a five star hotel licking their wounds. Hopefully they will be reassigned to Samolia after all their obvious bias reports from here.. At least I hope so. And as for Amnesty International and BBC, they are a lost cause.

Where have you been? Abhisit's offer of November elections was rejected by the reds.

The reds are showing that they are violent thugs by burning other peoples property. They will have less and less people behind them if they continue with this mayhem.

What exactly is the "Phuyai" in the army?

Ask yourself this question, all this carnage could have been avoided if Abhisit had called an election?

Or this one: couldn't it all have been avoided if Thailand had simply be turned out to Thaksin since day1? :)
