Mentioned free eduction and income gurantees for farmers.

Impact on GDP from all this is about 0.5% largely due to impact on tourism.

I think that's correct.

Do you object to someone being wealthy? I know of no claims that his wealth was obtained fraudulently.

He also happens to be extremely well educated and that, in my view, IS a key issue.

I saw a half dozen elections billboards - the kind that list all of the candidates - in the Jatujak district. They were all lined up & ready to be distributed. It looks like the elections are going to take place.

I've seen many new candidate's signs as well as people campaigning with signs in Nonthaburi. Apparently many are planning for elections.

All crimes could be avoided if you pretended they were not crimes and gave every potential criminal what they wanted without a fight.

Leaders by definition are elites. You WANT them to be elite. Lula of Brazil, a wonderful leftist leader, started life as a peasant but now leads one of the world's great nations. I am sure he isn't poor no more (sic).

I suggest contacting Amnesty International yourselves and call upon them to condemn the redshirt violence, particularly the attacks on the media which is in effect an attack on freedom of speech.

No objection to the wealthy people, friend. Like them in fact.

Just calling him on the shiet coming out of his mouth. He's rich, Ahbist is rich, Anapong is rich and Anapong's #2 will soon be rich when he takes over the army in November. 99.9% of the reds are dirt poor.

If it's not about rich vs poor, what's it about? Rule of law? Give me a break! The coup in 2006 put an end to that.

Gunfight continues at Din Daeng Intersection

At 2:25 pm Wednesday, protesters continue to clash with troops.

The angry protesters burned tyres while sounds of gunfire and explosions were heard continually.

A fire also broke out at a building near the Siam City Bank.

A perfect two-word characterisation of Bangkok's so-called police force ever since I can remember. Never mind constitutional or political reform in the wake of all this, the most important thing this country needs (has needed IMO ever since I first came here in 1995) is the professionalisation of the police force.

They should take lessons from how the London Met' were professionalised in the 1970s and onwards after large scale public outrage at their not dissimilar practices to the Thai police.

Agree 100%, I was in London in the 70's and what a change!

The best cops I ever met were Bobbies, even when I was arrested, they couldn't do enough for me, in fact, they told me they were embarrassed.

It all turned out good in the end and I had a few new friends. :)

Is it true that you have to have a degree to get into the Met now?

Fewer police and pay them well and you will get the rule of law in Thailand, instead of extortionists & thugs, in brown uniforms.

I had been wondering, as the protests went on for weeks and weeks, that maybe this was a subtle and clever strategy by Abhisit to wait them out - if it went on long enough the UDD's true nature would come to the surface. Hopefully the current mayhem will turn the general public against them across most of Thailand and they will become a spent political force.
