don't forget ( and don't forgive ) these names ?

Jatuporn Prompan

Nutthawut Saikua

Weng Tojirakarn

Jeng Dokjik

Korkeaw Pikuntong

Wiputalang

Nisit Sinthuprai

Plus one:_

Thaksin S.

Well personally I have respect for Jatuporn and Nutthawut. They led the peaceful part of the crowd until the end came (rather than run away.) And when the end came they asked the 'peaceful' demonstrators to give up and disburse. They acted well and probably saved many lives. And they showed leadership.

Jatuporn earning some respect from me for turning himself in and continuing speech from police station trying to get the red mob to disperse. Clearly this doesn't take away the need to hold him accountable but he certainly deserves a heck of a lot more credit than the other coward leaders,

It will save the red leaders a meeting with a gurney and a needle by turning themselves in. The question now is how long will they be held AND what will they be formally charged with?

HOT: Red-shirt Leaders to Stop Deaths/Injuries to Regroup in Future

The key red-shirt leaders have taken the red-shirt stage and called for an end to the red-shirt rally to put an end to the deaths and injuries.

But reiterated that the 'fight' of the red-shirt movement will not stop, adding that the 'fight' will be carried on via democratic means.

Thank you PM Abhisit for LIBERATING Bangkok. Back to normalcy, PLEASE. :D:)

Well done Abhisit.

Curfew tonight?

Some body ...cant even be bothered to read his name said they were protesting for 'democracy which they already have ' !! excuse me ..this government was formed after a military coup. Where in the world does this pass for democracy ? So many arrogant well off people on this forum probably with either business interests or living soft lives in Thailand probably worried their Issan GF,s may better themselves and not be bought for a thousand baht a night ..grow up the lot of you .

Calm down and be happy this thing finally looks like it "may" be coming to an end.

Jatuporn: This is not really a surrender and I know you are against this, but I'm going to the police station. For us, leaders, death is not an issue, but we don't want you to die.

Even a CHILD could see through this self-glorifying laughable nonsense.

:):D:D

Yes the red leaders do insult the intelligence of their followers.

Towers of Babble.

Oh but I'm an MP you can't prosecute ME!!!!!

We'll see fatboy.

Pretty sure the terrorism charge will wipe away any 'immunity"

You forgot the 2 Thaksin puppet governments that were formed after the military coup that you mentioned.

Those 2 governments didn't understand democracy, and were banned by the courts for 1) breaking the law and lying in court, and 2) bribing people to vote for them.

Then a majority of the democratically elected MPs decided that the Thaksin puppet parties were useless at running the government, so decided to support Abhisit instead.

If things go well, I would guess another 24 hours before they get those stragglers hel_l bent on violence off the streets.

I wonder if the thugs on the outskirts of the protest areas will keep fighting?

they,(the reds under Thaksin) have created a situation that triggered attraction for all sorts of criminals. They knew that very well, but can't effort longer to swim on that speculation.

It's gonna take some time to clear out the pockets of remaining thugs and also to chase all the other leaders, including an international arrest warrant on Thaksin for instigating terrorism.

Isn't he the one who threatened to place a BOMB on the skytrain tracks much earlier in this conflict?

Nattawud: our fight will proceed according to democracy;I know you don't want to hear this but we cannot hold off the situation

I think that sums up the red protestors - They don't want to hear about democracy.

It had to happen sooner or later. Now I hope for two things: Firstly minimal casulties on both sides. And secondly for Abhisit to to go through with his roadmap inclusive early election plans instead of abusing a successful crackdown to suppress the opposition. What we need is real reconciliation. Without concessions to all the moderate red supporters in the provinces, i fear, it won't take long before more of them are radicalized.

You're nicer than I. I can see Abhisit going through with his 'roadmap' ....but he should not feel compelled to go ahead with early elections. The Reds had that option - wide open - but shunted it rudely. Early elections have not been on the negotiating table for a week. Thaksin and the Reds gambled and lost. Abhisit should go ahead and have elections at the end of 2011. And all expenses for dealing with the rallies/riots should be borne by T, and members of his friends and family who sponsored it.

Thaksin always gets the blame for for this peacefull rally, :D he is just a puppet in this somewhere to shovel the blame to so as not to see where it really lies. :D

The Redshirts have had enough of poverty, when you have to live day to day scrounging, existing not living.

Then Dying wouldnt bother them and as for women and children are women not able to protest after all they are the ones trying to bring up a family, so if they go to protest who looks after the children ??????????? and as for abhisit well with a bit of luck a strange Sniper might shoot him then they will need elections .

He is a murderer and i hope he gets whats coming to him.

:)

I am not sure about Thai laws will have to check Mr. Newbee. But I believe it is against the law to advocate the killing of the PM. You sure are a compassionate person. I trust you are using a proxy to hide your IP address. If not :D .

26vinny -- you clearly have never been to any village anywhere in Thailand -- you clearly know NO Thai villagers at all. Who looks after the children? Those who love the children. That has never been a problem in any village of the many I have visited throughout Thailand. Who take children to a very dangerous place? Those who think they may make some money from it

Jatuporn pleading with his red shirts to end protest

Red-shirt leader Natthawut Saikua said as their leader, the red shirts must now end their rally.

"I can no longer tolerate the cruelty inflicted on us, the red shirts," he said.

Wait til you bend over to pick up the soap, in the Bangkok Hilton. You are gonna get a big dose of "Cruelty" where the sun don't shine.

Hopefully five times a day. You know Thais like to take many showers when it is hot.

i sure hope the red shirt leaders don't "admit" they committed crimes and get off on bail. :)

I can't believe when Promphan turned himself in that he was allowed to make a long speech just as he has been doing for more than two months. It looked like he was a hero.

Maybe I jumped the gun in feeling good about this hopefully coming to an end. Maybe I should not be directing any respect toward him but rather more scorn to those who led these people to this point and then ran away.

Just watched the so called leaders run off the stage in a probable set up to make it look like there were snipers ready to take them out anytime,so they had no choice but to give up eh ,and now sit here stunned with my wife that he is then given a microphone( in the police station) and proceeds to give another speech relayed to the weeping women and their deluded thugs outside.

Just to top it all, he is then allowed to prey in front of the Kings picture before he is charged.

is this a terrorsit under arrest,or am i ....... missing something here

And why are all the other protesters allowed to leave,NO and i mean also to include women

My wife is outraged that women who have also contributed to this madness, are allowed just to slip away to again cause more disturbances wherever they live (she does imo have a point) and yes i know i will get some stick for bringing the wife up

Move them to a facility,so you can determine who the real terrorists are and let the rest go.

They should also be held accountable

All protesters no matter what their gender, should be tried with the full force of the law

a police force that doesnt police

an army that doesnt protect

a government that doesnt govern

and democracy on sale for 500 baht

= chaos

I think this is the best statement I have ever read on this site, in fact NO think about it. This is without question the most intelligent understanding of the issues ever. Good job, thank you.

Live interview with reporter on CNN - M-79's definitely came from the other (Reds) side. CNN finally getting Rivers to cover his pet group accurately.

Big business controls the US and the media is controlled by Big Business. The only concern the US had over this situation is to be sure they were friendly with whoever came out on top. This is largely why they reported this story RADICALLY differently than they would have it this was happening in the US. I am not saying they reportedly completely wrong but they certainly were careful about not getting the reds too upset.

I think it was Jatuporn who made the speech when he turned himself in. Sorry. My congratulations to PM Abhisit. Maybe with these Reds in jail we can begin to make Thailand a great country like it deserves to be.

Don't celebrate too soon people .... there is a HUGE mop-up operation clearing the roads of the more violent of the thugs. It has been suggested that many were hired from the drug-gangs of the industrial estates in Samut Prakhan and Klong Toei. They are likely to be quite angry if they don't get paid.

Expect real acts of terrorism and vandalism and looting now.

Do not be too optimistic, the moderate leaders have surrender leaving an angry mob uncontrolled... as Tulsahit has tweeted everyting may happen from now ... or only some pockets of resistance... or a bigger insurrection.

Praying everything go to normalcy, but difficult with moderate leaders "neutralised".
