It looks like we have all been duped by Thai politics. The red shirt leaders are not in jail. They're on holiday. These photos were taken yesterday:

Oh my lord. If those dates are correct, I wonder quite how much egg someone is going to have on his face explaining that one away.

Thai law enforcement at it's finest. Wait, they will probably request they want to visit the London Olympics early, but they promise to come back once the whole thing has finished.

They are being held this way to prevent the reds from claiming they are tortured etc.

Like strawberries and cream before the electric chair.

Well, looks like this is the photo of their prison cell:

Looks an awful lot like the crowded cells at the other Thai prisons:

Minus the privilege of no iron bars and ocean view, swimming pool and room service, of course. :)

I'm actually happy they're getting good accommodation. The last thing I want to read is another Amnesty International article about how the brutal, oppressive government is torturing and harming these innocent freedom fighters with harsh jail conditions.

such a shame the 9 to cell chaps don't have any money to influence A.I. and its assorted brown nosing N.G.O.s to stand up for them.

No money to pay for a Jewish Lawyer like Robert Amsterdam either.

Strange how the concern for the common people seems to have flown out of the Red Shirts de-luxe accommodation windows.

Of course the T.V news in Montenegro will follow the fate of these less fortunate souls

''Sorry Mr. Thaksin another plate of caviare you said'' ?

Remember not to eat to much caviare as the last time you did it you told us all that it made you look fat.

Surely you remember that comment ?

Is Mr Amsterdam Jewish?

<deleted> has that got to do with anything? If he was Irish, would you have mentioned that?

not so easy to catch the tweety when he has his grumpy granny

Wow.

This Robert Amsterdam fellow is either extremely stupid, or an obscene liar. My guess is the latter.

"no knowledge of Thaksin funding the Red Shirts".

Yeah, nice way to build credibility, slimeball.

I must say, the Al-Jazeera reporter did a decent job calling him out on his BS.

When cornered, he changed the subject to something irrelevant.

Mr.T has never told the truth, he is feeding Mr. Amsterdam a bunch of lies :) Wait untill the red leaders start singing.

animatic: This was weeks ago. Someone on the forum knows the guy

who decked the red shirt who came to search his girlfriends purse.

He thought he was attacking his woman and dropped the guy.

Then all his buddies came in.... a mess.

This was a perfect example of redshirts thinking they are a law unto themselves,

and why letting them win was never on the table.

Thank you. :)

It was this nasty event (among others) of the redshirt intimidation demanding to search locals on the street that showed us what an unpleasant bunch they were and are.

The guy who defended his girlfriend is a bloody hero in my eyes.

The reds will not be back in Bangkok in a hurry now.

All of Bangkok will be relieved.

Are all of you commenting completely clueless? You think any of your calls for "justice" etc are ever in a million years going to happen here? "Bring Thaksin to justice!" Man, you guys live in this country for years and yet know NOTHING!

The first hint is that the red shirt leaders are detained in a beach side resort home and have only lost their Internet and mobile privileges.

Just brutal justice. Can't image the sweet pad they would put Thaksin up in.

They're waiting for Arisaman, he's the singer:

Court to rule today on warrant for Thaksin for terrorism

BANGKOK - The Criminal Court is scheduled to decide Tuesday afternoon whether to issue an arrest warrant for fugitive ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra for terrorism.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has sought the warrant in connection with last week's riots by the red shirts, during which many buildings in Bangkok and other provinces were torched by rioters.

The court initially agreed to the DSI request late last week but later withdrew its decision.

It cited the need for more careful consideration, and called a trial on Monday.

At yesterday's trial, DSI Director-General Tharit Pengdit and two other senior department officials testified in court in support the DSI request.

The trial was conducted behind closed doors and lasted about an hour.

The DSI also provided two files of documents and a number of video clips linking Thaksin to the terrorism case.

The court yesterday turned down an objection to the DSI request by Thaksin's lawyers on the grounds that the document produced appointing them as Thaksin's lawyers was dated 2007, which the court considered "non-current", according to Thanadej Puangpoon, one of the lawyers.

He said the legal team was waiting for a new letter of certification from Thaksin, which he expected in one week.

The lawyers would appeal against any decision by the court to issue a warrant against their wealthy client.

In a related development, two men described as potential "second-generation leaders" of the red-shirt movement yesterday turned themselves in to police at the Crime Suppression Division for violating the emergency decree.

Somyos Phruksakasemsuk, 49, a leader of the group "June 24 for Democracy" and editor of the Red News newspaper, and Associate Professor Suthachai Yimprasert, 54, a lecturer at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Liberal Arts, turned themselves in.

Somyos said he surrendered after becoming aware that he was suspected of violating the emergency law.

He said that a street demonstration he led last week in Lat Phrao had nothing to do with the red shirts. He said the event aimed to mark abolition of the absolute monarchy in June 1932.

After an hour of questioning by senior policemen, the two men were taken to the Army Cavalry Centre in Saraburi for detention and further interrogation. Their vehicle was escorted by police commandos.

Central Investigation Bureau chief Police Lt-General Tha-ngai Praschaksatru said the two were merely considered "suspects" and they would be released if, after seven days of detention, they were found to have no links with a violation of the emergency decree.
