BANGKOK: -- The Thai economy will experience more serious risks, particularly from rising fuel prices, in the second half of this year, but the situation will not fuel non-performing loans in the system, according to a top banker.

Bantoon Lamsum, President of Kasikornbank Plc, said the bank had not yet revised a target for business performance because it wanted to monitor and estimate the situation first.

However, he conceded, the bank’s customers might be affected by the unfavorable situation and be in grater difficulty in running business.

On a planned investment in China, he said, the bank was in a process of considering which type of investment would be

The bank viewed there was much room for Thailand to expand investment in the Chinese market.

Mr. Bantoon said the bank also planned to provide loans to various business sectors, especially energy affair and service business. A study of the plan in detail must be made with caution before it would be implemented.

He also disclosed the bank would jointly organize the 14th Annual Asia Leadership Forum during 13-14 June.

The meeting could serve as evidence that leading investors around the world were still interested in investment in Thailand despite the economic slowdown. It showed the country remained one of investment magnets.
