Hi,

Haven't been home to the UK for a couple of years and the the doctors at my surgery are saying they won't do anymore repeat prescriptions on my inhalers because I haven't been for so long, even though I have being using this medicine for the past 28 years. I need Becotide 100mg (dark brown) and the closest I've got to this in los are the light brown 50mg Becotides. Been told that they have stopped making these now though. Does anyone know anywhere in los that does the 100mg type?

Cheers

Try St Louis Hospital Sathorn if you are in Bangkok ask for a respiratory specialist

There are alternatives to Becotide now and you might consider an examination review to reasses your Asthma a disease of the respiratory system. Your respiratory system is made up of your nose and mouth, your windpipe (also called your trachea, pronounced tray-key-uh), your lungs, and a bunch of air tubes (or airways) that connect your nose and mouth with your lungs (these tubes are called bronchi and bronchioles, prounounced bron-kye and bron-key-oles).

That's for the layman.

I suggest a visit and re-examination.

The secret to life is breathing especially when there is air present. I feel sorry for the asthmatic who cannot exhale CO2.

Good Luck

Good luck finding the becotide...

I've found my asthma much better in LOS, than before in England, so I've stopped taking the brown one here - I just get the blue salbutamol, available over the counter in any good pharmacy a lot cheaper than the repeat prescriptions were in UK. I've never tried asking for becotide though...

Sarcasm aside, a visit to a respiratory expert here would probably do me a lot of good too...

salbutamol is ventolin briconlin type

becotide is steroid for prevention not take care of direct attack

there is new thing now: singular.... my son gets it its a pill though and for people who suffer more from sports/activity asthma then for chronic or allergy acute asthma... i heard about it in the states; in israel they just started using it

theres lots of stuff now:

fluxanase, etc... depending on what type of asthma and how your lung function tests are: u better do an updated one... my kids do at least once a year or more depending on sports/allergy changes

becotide is the brand name just look for others with same stuff different name

I shall soon face this problem as I only have one inhaler left.

The active ingredient in BECOTIDE is Bechomethasone dipropionate (see this link http://www.theallergysite.co.uk/drugsheets/becotide.html)

Suggest that you visit a good pharmacy with the above name written clearly. They should have a book of proprietary drugs (in English) which has an index that leads to alternate brands.

I shall be asking at my FOODLAND market pharmacy tomorrow (they seem to be the only ones who carry the BP medication I need) and will report back unless someone else post an answer sooner.

Because BECOTIDE is a topical steroid for asthma prevention (the VENTOLIN is to relieve symptoms when you get an attack) it needs to be used therapeutically usually as prescribed by a doctor. My usual regime has been 1 puff twice daily which i increase to 2 puffs twice daily if I feel my breathing starting to tighten. By year end I shall be moving and breathing sea ir daily so I hope that will solve my allergy problem!

Best of health

Jackr, I've got a spare one somewhere around the house.trouble is, when we moved the "two legged Rottie" put it somewhere!!!! When I find it you can have it.The becotide never worked for me and all I need is a puff of ventolin a couple of times a month.Give me a day or two. :o

Cheers for the response guys. Salbutamol's no good for me as that does the same job as the Ventolin and makes me feel like s***. Told my doctor this when they changed them over from the Ventolin years ago (salbutamol was cheaper to produce) and he threw me straight back on the Ventolin. I need the preventative with the same ingredients as Becotide. Asked a couple of pharmacists here to check the brands through the drugs catalogues but they never came up with anything. Very rarely need the Ventolin, especially now I live here, but I can feel my chest tightening slowly and may have to start using it again. A re-evaluation sounds like a good idea. Taking a pill every now and then would be a lot better. My asthma has never bothered me when exercising etc but used to kick off in the UK through allergies and in the winter.

Cheers Chuchok, let me know when you retrieve the aforementioned brown thing from the belly of the beast. :o:D What's the date on it? We'll have to get together for a bevy or two mate regardless. Next week?

the pill is called : singulair

my 13 yr old niece in states has been started on it w/good results also; its a long lasting anti bronchial spasm drug, not steroid and not the same as bricolin/ventolin... but meant for people that need to use the inhalor (ventolin) more than a few times a month/week

found the site, its a merck product.... anyway, here in israel its a new product and not covered by med. insurance yet, so rather expensive, but the more up to date doctors are prescibing it ; its not meant for everyone and i dont think its available over the counter or even available in all countries yet...

http://www.singulair.com/montelukast_sodiu...sumer/index.jsp

the chemical name is motelukast....
