France bans Thaksin from talking politics

BANGKOK (NNT) — France has banned fugitive ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from using his stay in the country as the talking base to destroy Thailand’s image.

Mr Thaksin was spotted in Paris, France, while he was shopping with one of his daughter, Ms Paethongtan, at a Louis Vuitton shop on Champs Elysées street last Saturday. Mr Taksin was banned from speaking with French journalists at a dinner-debate on 31 May at the Center of Political and Foreign Affairs. The French authorities are now seeking his appearance in order to make sure he does not make any public statements in the country.

Deputy Secretary General to the Prime Minister and acting Government Spokesperson, Panitan Wattanayagorn, said he doubted if any governments wanted their countries to be used as political base by people with warrant of arrest or being in the middle of the prosecution.

Asked whether it would be easier to gain foreign cooperation to deport Mr Thaksin back to Thailand if court had issued warrant of arrest, Mr Panitan said the process would be conducted in a serious and systematic way. Sufficient backup information have been gathered to allege Mr Thaksin, while the global community also abides by the UN's Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime.

Mr Panitan added that the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation on Friday issued an order under the emergency decree prohibiting United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship core figure Jatuporn Prompan from leaving the country as he earlier used his MP position to bail himself out.

Democrats Link Riots with Red-shirt Networks Overseas

The ruling Democrat Party suggests red-shirt elements overseas have also played a part in the recent riots in Bangkok.

Democrat spokesperson Buranut Samutharuk said his party has obtained evidence that red-shirt networks overseas have incited anti-government protesters to stage mayhem in Bangkok.

Buranat indicated that the red-shirt networks have encouraged the protesters to stage arson attacks on shopping malls and banks.

Buranut revealed the suggestions on arson attacks were made through a website called NorPorChorUSA2.com. The website has already been blocked by the Thai authorities.

The party spokesman said the interview of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra with Asia Times magazine over his alleged order for red-shirt protesters to spread violence if they are dispersed will be used as evidence in an ongoing investigation against the former premier.

Buranut also said the Foreign Ministry has received full co-operation from European countries to restrict Thaksin's movement and ensure their countries are not being used as a springboard for political attacks against Thailand.

France has recently issued a ban on Thaksin from delivering a speech at a seminar on the political crisis in Thailand. He then reportedly flew to London.

France has a long history of Basque ETA using their territory as a safe house

and staging area to attack Spanish territory, they are NOT amused with this.

Thaksin if charged will face a tough slog, as long as he isn't charged with a chance

of capital punishment France will ship him out. But if he gets a capital charge they

might not easily allow him out. But his life waiting it out there will be miserable

in a tough french gaol too. So charge him with some thing tough then the capital charge,

if applicable, when he's on Thai soil, etc.

He can get in a car and drive into most Schengen countries without issue

once issued a Schengen area visa for a member country. From there a quiet

border crossing to a non-Schengen country might not be so hard.

Depends where they are looking for him, and how strong the charge is.

At least France shut him up over this Monday speech he planned.

Do you think Thailand really wants him back here?

Consider that if he were in a Thai prison he still has enough support, enough people who believe in him, to rally around and beseige anywhere he may be held.

Seems to me its far safer for the Govt to have him out of the country and keep him out forever.

Restrict him and his business interests here in Thailand as much as possible under the law and do all they can to cut off his supply of cash going both ways.

Also use as much PR against him here as the Govt can find, there should be enough past and present statements to make quite a long documentry.

:) Great, next time he takes off, all countries deny landing rights, kind of like a half way ticket for us commoners.

For those critical of the EU, just this morning they made a strong call for action in Bangkok, two days after it's all over.

Once Thaksin is charged with Terrorism his life will become miserable. This should happen within the coming week. He will not be able to travel to any European countries or to the US without risking being detained. I today's world, terrorism is not viewed lightly and they will detain him on extradition charges.

Montenegro will soon be his permanent residence - but than again, with his money .....

UK took away his visas some time ago , so they wont let him in, he may fly there but they wont let him land

Considering the UK is still suffering from 13 years of labor incompetence and that he is legally a Montenegran, they will probably let him in. Don't forget, he is currently only charged with corruption and a mini sentence of 2 years. Once terrorism charges and an arrest warrant is logged with Interpol, it becomes a whole new game - only Montenegro will be safe for him since they do not have an extradition treatment with Thailand and he is officially a citizen.

Wouldn't it be possible to "ignore" him and his "announcements/speeches" in the Thai media et cetera, trough the existing Thai laws.

He made at least 1 or 2 speeches (understatement) that are against the law. So based on that I would say ban the distribution/publication/broadcast of all his announcements and international interviews in the Thai media.

Even during the "crackdown" he was given a forum and sending inflamatory messages en statements trough Thai media...

I guess 30% / 70% Thai court would issue a terrorist warrant tomorrow ? IF yes, certainly make a big change for him :-(

as Robby NZ said, there is no point of bringing him back to Thailand neither. see what the Thai government offers to Nattawut - an army seaside resort during detention, just a party ?

consider Mr T, then he may have an entire resort as his prison, with hundreds other prisoners as his servants ? double standard :-(

That's what everyone has been recommended, but it falls of deaf ears.

Some problmes is the gov't just isn't open to outside suggestions, or one guy is really Thai, while the other was educated in the west.

Despite everything that he has done, most western countries still see Thaksin as an elected leader who was ousted by a coup. I may be wrong, but I don't think that any country will extradite him to Thailand unless he really pisses them off.

There's also the whole death penalty issue. Many countries won't extradite anyone, much less someone with a political history, when they could end up facing the death penalty. I suspect that that is why the govt. has backpedaled on his terrorism charge. A terrorism conviction could lead to the death penalty. In most European countries, an overseas death penalty is a 'get out of jail and make yourself at home' card! :)

Thaksin praises surrender

Decision has helped save lives, former Thai premier says on Twitter

(and besides that they didn't have a better choice!!!!!)

BANGKOK - FORMER Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has praised the decision of protest leaders to surrender because it helped save lives.

'I appreciate the red shirt leaders' move to save lives by surrendering to police,' he said via Twitter. 'I am so sorry for those who lost their lives and got injured.'

Earlier yesterday, the exiled leader said he feared a crackdown on anti-government protesters could lead to guerilla warfare across the country.

(He knows dam well there will be, he is already planning it with his paid guerillas)

He also denied that he had undermined peace talks between protesters and the government, saying he was not the 'mastermind of the terrorists'.

(Would you have expected him to say anything else ---- He has an answer for everything, as unbelievable as most of them are)

'There is a theory saying a military crackdown can spread resentment and these resentful people will become guerillas,' Thaksin told Reuters in a telephone interview, declining to say where he was.

(He prefers to keep his location secret from any possible hit men)

Denying an accusation by a top aide of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva that he was the stumbling block in the failed talks between the government and the leaders of the 'red shirt' movement, he said: 'I have never objected (to) any negotiation efforts.

( As long as the negotiations included a "get out of jail free card" for me and my Thai PASSPORT is re-instated)-

Guaranteed income for farmers

transfer of loan shark loans to government banks at affordable interest rates
