Sometimes Inches, Sometimes Metric

Featured Replies

Why is it that Thailand uses the metric system in most cases but inches are still used when a girl gives her measurements for her bust, waist and hips? Also inches are used when a document needs a photograph of the person, e.g., driver's license photo should be 1 inch....a work permit photo should be 2 inches?

Just a guess but perhaps Miss Universe contests as believe they always report the vital stats in inches.

As for photos to help us metric challenged folks. You will also find the requirements in many places as 4x6cm for immigration type photos.

Yes inches are still used when a girl gives her measurements for her bust, waist and hips. I been to lot of country, most of them quote their shape in inch.

It's just the numbers - forget about the units.

No woman, no matter how attractive, wants in advertised she is 81.28 around the hips. :o

Excellent analysis!

It's obvious, surely?

Thailand is inching towards the Metric System.

In the north lumber is measured in inches for width and thickness and by 'sawk' for length. One sawk is 50cm......the approximate distance from your finger tips to your elbow...'sawk' means 'elbow'. The blue plastic screen material that we make chicken fences out of is measured in yards. Most paint is in litres but some is in gallons. Corrugated roofing is measured in feet.

In the same respect, ALL men like to think that the "ol' fella" is in double figures :D:D

long live the metric system! :D

Though ladyboys who want to have the downunder operation are given a choice of 4 or 6 inches deep.

Some could argue, this is about an average farang length - although mine's 15.24 cms.

At one time (not sure if it's still true) in the UK, plasterboard (drywall) came in sheets 6 feet by 2 metres, heaven only knows why.

We also had a problem getting new interior doors for our (ex-council) house, the installed doord were 'metric'. None of the local builders merchants could supply doors to fit, either 1/2" too small or 2" too big (too much to plane off). The original builders had used doors imported from Germany.

This has gone WAY off topic, let's talk about the shape of women again :o:D

And bra's are always sized metric (centimeters), but trousers are in inches....

Womens measurements are almost still measured universally by inches........ even when the metric system applies...... :o

I've been in the pipeline business virtually all my w*rking life. Sizes are still quoted the same as when I started, e.g.

300 km of 36" dia pipeline, 1/2" wall thickness.

200 km of 20" dia pipeline, 3/8" wall thickness.

I don't know why.

I do believe that "cubit" is the word for the same length in Old English. Apparently, a "long cubit" is a bit longer. :o

The males in Thailand, of all varieties, seem to measure their most important appendage in inches, just like in the USA. In Mexico, however, it was centimeters. And everybody paid attention to it.
