Cabinet extends curfew 4 days, shortens hours

The Cabinet Tuesday resolved to extend curfew in Bangkok and 23 other provinces from Tuesday to Friday.

The curfew hours will be midnight to 4 am, one hour shortened from earlier curfew periods.

The Cabinet will assess the situation on Saturday and make a decision whether to extend the curfew again.

they had this in S-Korea from the late 60ties into 1975 (approx.), everything good

'n' evil had to be done before midnight; it simply turns into a habit and standing

I wonder if in some odd way this curfew is a form of retaliation toward the Isaan population who in the main would b viewed as Red Shirts. When you think about it in an X-Files type conspiracy way, being all Isaan are poor, and most of the ladies working bar jobs at night come from Isaan, who are the main losers in this curfew? See what i mean?

Why would someone travel dozens if not hundred of kilometers just to break a curfew?

Surely if there's been no trouble then there's no need for a curfew.

I'm sure that if trouble does occur then the powers that be will extend the curfew as required.

You don't seem to understand, the curfew is put in place to keep groups from gathering and inciting each other. Pattaya really wasn't part of the mob rule in the first place. Red shirt tried to stare down the multicolored shirt from across the street but nobody crossed the line.

If they do it is easy to put the curfew back in place. Pattaya being the entertainment center for tourists doesn't need to be choked like many other places that the reds are likely to gather but I am sure the government is keeping a close eye on Pattaya. The mayor and police chief specifically asked for the exemption and it has proven to be a valid request.

Did it in the Phillippines also in the late 70's/early '80's. It was so common both bad and good people developed workarounds and the police basically looked the other way as long as you were off the streets; but you could still be inside a bar plotting the conquest of the universe with a 100 of your storm troopers.

No problem, midnight to 4 am. If you can't deal with that then just leave. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. better safe than sorry. let the sorry ones go find a better place to live. cya!

The first post above is really splitting hairs! Does it really matter? Were you planning on running naked around town at one a.m.?

That's what I was thinking.... helps turn the (BKK) people even more aginst the reds.

If the rift between the two areas grows much more, this may become a BKK- vs. 'The North' battle in the near future. I really hope not.

Agree, can't see the point of it unless it is to show they are making an attempt to maintain the peace, which is nonsense. If the reds were to start more trouble, they could do it from 4am to midnight so why the curfew? Is it just so they can make arrests during the curfew? If so, it still doesn't make sense.
