Relief measures to aid industrial sector launched

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The Ministry of Industry has launched several measures both in short and long terms to assist and strengthen industries and business entrepreneurs impacted by the domestic political unrest and riots.

Permanent Secretary for Industry, Vitoon Simachokdee, announced that the ministry would consider extending the exemption of annual fee according to the 1992 Factory Bill for factory owners for another one year until 31 May 2011 to assist entrepreneurs troubled by political unrest in many areas.

The ministry also issue short-term measures to help entrepreneurs by assigning the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion to reduce interest rate burden and coordinate with other related agencies in giving concrete assistance to entrepreneurs.

The ministry will have a meeting with related units under its supervision and the Federation of Thai Industries to formulate policies and necessary laws to help business entrepreneurs in a concrete and integrated manner.

As for long-term measures, the ministry will move on the promotion of industrial development under the creative economy policy to mark up value for Thai produces via research and creative designs. The South Korean creative industry will be used as a role model.

The ministry will also encourage entrepreneurs in the industrial sector to realize the importance of the green industry as the ministry will create a green mark for entrepreneurs. The last long-term measure is to promote bio-industry among factories to reduce the use of nonrenewable energy in the sector.
