Banking Opportunities In Los

Recommended Posts

Your thoughts and opinions on banking jobs here in Thailand. I wanted to see if your comments are the same as for the IT newbie.

I have a degree and been in the Residential Lending business for (8) years financing homes. My work history is primarily in the banking industry. Started out as a Teller when I was in school, so I guess I wouldn't mind being a Teller again if I have to. Anybody know the salary grade for Bankers (various positions)?

BTW, I am of Thai origin, but an American citizen. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know wage scale but first question will be if you are still a Thai citizen (with id card). If not it would severely limit the opportunities for employment here as you would still be subject to the visa/work permit and salary requirements of other foreigners (ie you would not have a choice to accept low level jobs as they would not be offered). You might try networking among the weekend visitors to a local wat to get current information if we can't provide.

Why not work on wallstreet, make a million bucks and retire early?

I would probably die of a heart-attack by the time I reach 1/2 million. You ever see those guys at the trading floor? I lived and worked in Chicago for 4 years, and visited the trading floor a few times during my lunch break. Those guys/gals look like ######. And when they are not trading, they chain-smoke and drink until they're blue. I'm not saying all do that, but I have seen many traders at the bars after work taking shots after shots.

1) Must be Russian to do a Bank Job in Thailand.

2) Must own or rent a speed boat that does not break down during your getaway.

3) And live in Pattaya.

do you have any family in thailand, or know anybody in thailand, once a thai always a thai, try to get your PP back, just hold dual PP, Thai and US, don't ask don't tell, you will benifit it, if you speak thai i don't think you would have any trouble looking for a job.

I do have family, but is it advisable getting a Thai PP? I heard (rumor) that if you are of Thai descent and applying for a Thai citizenship, you must serve in the military. How true, if at all, is this?

I can speak Thai, but not very fluent. I can probably pick it up with more time in the country, as I have noticed while vacationing there. I don't think I can pick up on the reading or writing though, unless I went back to school.

And isn't it illegal holding dual citizenship? I know it's common, because my mother has both, but she is a lot more savy than I am when it comes to manipulating the system.

No but being male you are required to register for military service and I believe must then renounce your foreign citizenship.

Believe the only way you could find employment in banking as a foreigner would be family connections without being upper middle level management or having specialist qualifications. Perhaps a long range plan would be employment with a US firm operating here and later transfer to Thailand at US wage?

.

The last thing I want to do in the LOS is tote an M-16 around hunting down drug traders on the Burmese border. I was thinking more of touring the country and enjoying myself eating "Lad Na" and "Koa Pad". Drinking "Singha" and smiling like the locals.

I thought about working for Bank of America or Citibank, but I'm not patient enough to wait a year or two and then apply for an international transfer. Maybe I can get a job teaching English in the banking industry? What's your opinion on how the Thais would react seeing an American of Thai descent teaching them English?

Have never been involved with teaching so can only guess that you might be able to pull it off in adult education (but your age may hinder you). In school setting believe they go out of their way to hire the blond foreign looking teacher in the past but teaching is becoming professional with ability now wanted, in addition to having a degree and TEFL type paperwork.
