Advise On Car Purchase

Featured Replies

hi

bit of advice needed purchased car from private dealer 6 months ago milage was 132,000 k having taken car into toyota yesterday they gave us info that 3 weeks before we bought the car the milage was actually 194,000.

we have been back to dealer we bought from and he is understanding and willing to take car back but not at original price we could lose around 150,000 to 200,000 baht we are waiting for bank on monday to see how much it is to pay finance off.

we have h.p contract with bank that shows all details of car including how many kilometers when we bought car,as this info is wrong would that make contract invalid and would we be entitled to full refund.

basically do we any leg to stand on for full refund or are we lucky he is willing to take car back at all.

Is there a big mechanical problem with the vehicle? if not just try and negotiate extracting some baht for the 60,000ks if the vendor as you say is "understanding".Luckily i dont have this problem as i buy vehicles i know will have been clocked before as everybody wants to drive high ks and buy low ks, cant be done.

I agree with you. There is little point trusting the odometer in a second hand vehicle. An all round visual check followed by a test run will give you a better idea of the overall condition. A worn out drivers seat or well worn foot pedals are good signs. I think that you best bet probably is the "softly softly" approach with your vendor, as recommended above.

Another little scam to be aware off.Dealers have been known to wind the odometer forward to the original mileage after the deal is done and you collect and drive of your new toy!!Check before driving away!

If you don't get any response, go to the nearest copshop and file a complaint.

Like most Thai people would.

If memory serves correctly, Thailand recently enacted penalties against this very thing. Some kind of truth in selling via the used auto dealers. A check with the consumer protection officials may get you info so that you can enter the arena with valid info about your rights and what steps to take. If this was a private sale, I am not sure this will apply, but worth the followup, I would think.
