Chinese Special Economic Zone (sez) Visa

Featured Replies

Planning a trip to Hong Kong and would like to take my gf (holder of Thai passport) to Shenzhen. I'm aware that certain nationalities (it appears most, except maybe the Philippines and US) can get the Special Economic Zone (hereafter: SEZ) for Shenzhen or Zhuhai at a border gate such as Luohu / Lowu.

Is this available for Thai citizens as well, or will we have to apply for a visa for her beforehand? I've tried searching, but I can only seem to find sites that confirm it for "multiple nationalities" or for the commonwealth countries, nothing specifically for Thailand. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Note: we're just going to be staying for a day or two, the SEZ visa is normally 5-days, single or multiple entry

Yes, Thai can get the SEZ Visa as well. It's valid for 5 days in Shenzhen only. Make sure to have Chinese currency for the visa ( get it in Hong Kong ). The Visa is single entry only.

Last I have done it was last month. Be safe in Shenzhen.

Thanks, I was a bit worried she was going to have to be like me (as a US citizen) and apply at a place like CTS or back in BKK.

No need to worry, she can get it at the border (go up another Floor, after crossing the walkway over the river). But you as a US Citizen can not get the Visa there. Since you have to apply at the embassy in BKK, why don't take her as well? Would safe some time at the border crossing.

I actually live and work in Macau, so due to the proximity and my frequent visits to the mainland I have already picked up a two year multiple entry Visa from the embassy in Los Angeles.

Ok, so let her get the Visa on the border.

The Visa is only available at the main gate in Lohu, no other crossing (Macau etc). Avoid Fri and Sat and she should get the Visa within 5 minutes.
