Could you be a little more specific? There are about a hundred bars on the soi's off Nimmanhamin.

Its the biggest club in CM, if not the north of thailand. It sits on 'Prastertland' which is between the canal road and nimmen... (its where they hold the beer/food festivals/karabao also play there sometimes). Also a new barn sized club on same plot, looks like it plays golden oldies. I havent been, i must visit.

Bubbles is shut for refurbishment, but Hotshots was going strong when I was there in April. If you like THUD THUD THUD music that makes your teeth rattle.

There's a Thai place down the road before the narrow one-way bridge that was buzzing every night until stupid o'clock.

Dont bother, it only gets going after 11pm ish, shuts 2am ish?... but then again if you want a table up front you have to get there early.

I dont think they would be open tonight. do recommend going on the end of the month - payday. As its so big inside, it always feels empty without a 1000 people in there... jam packed with best looking women in CM! The grown man's 'warm up'!

Hmm.. It's a favourite place for well to do Thai's to take a Gik, so there will be plenty of older Thai guys with partner...

It's also full of off duty cops, so no real trouble. But no Ingrish is spoken. Trust me.. go on payday weekend.. It's crazy fun!

If I am not mistaken, I believe Par Club, in Chiang Rai, holds the title for largest club in Northern Thailand. But this place is big, tho. It was ok, but I was really put off by the communist pictures hanging on the walls. Not sure why they are there..

That's next weekend, I'll check it out. It's close to where I live, but I always assumed it was another student bar where a 52 year old farang would stick out like a sore thumb. But it doesn't hurt to take a look.

That's a good place but it's impossible to hold a conversation in there because the music is so loud.

One place I used to really enjoy often when I lived in the city was "Fine Thanks" on Nimm. soi 7 I think it was. Good live band with several different singers each night and hands down the best looking girls in CM worked there, all dressed in black and they were very friendly and sat down with you, etc. I was disappointed when they closed. I noticed just the other week that they re-opened on the Canal Road on the other side of Huay Kaew. Anybody know the place and/or been there recently?

anyone who has to spend 5000 baht to have a good night out in chiang mai is doing it wrong. or perhaps they are just spending all their money on rented friends due to their gigantic lack of charm and personality.

I tend to agree that spending 5000 baht in a night would have to mean that either you are a very extravagant spender or else that you are pig ugly. But I still claim that it's very easy to spend in excess of 1000 baht without any hanky-panky.

However I don't think that these young guys who've been piping up should be so arrogant. Just because you're young does not mean that you really are a "sexy man". White guys throughout Asia tend to do well with the ladies, regardless of age or looks. Whether or not you overtly pay the girls, they are attracted to you because rich and successful men are more attractive than men with no prospects. And if you're young, and you don't appear to be a hopeless kii nok, they will think that you have prospects and they will understand that your earnings potential is greatly higher than that of any Thai man that they are likely to meet. And if you are old, they will understand that if you didn't have a decent bank account you either wouldn't be retired or you wouldn't have been able to get a retirement visa for Thailand. Same same but different. Even more same same once your youth passes (as it will).

I'll give offer choices that go against the tide and probably identify my age group. For drinks and music I like North Gate jazz club at the North Gate (as the name implies) and for food & good beer I like Pinky's near the corner of Chaiyaphum Rd and Chang Moi Rd. No bar girls at either place, in case that's important to the "more sexy than thou" crowd.

It is the second largest city of Thailand, after Bangkok.Chiang Mai is Thailand`s second largest city and is home to about 200.000 people.

off topic: Chiang Mai is not the 2nd largest city in Thailand, it's the 7th.

Samut Prakan is the 2nd largest city, and Nonthaburi the third. If you want to lump those in with Bangkok, since they're contiguous with the capital, then Udon Thani, Chonburi and Nakhon Ratchasima are still each more populous than Chiang Mai.

I reckon 61's got shabby. The carpet is filthy and it takes them an age to clear the tables. Sitting outside is quite pleasant though.

Monkey Club, is always packed, yes. However, what the ###### is going on with the music? Used to be bands pretty much all night, but now they seems to favour the looped tape deal.

The new Warm Up on Nimmanheiman is carcking, although my Thai friends reckon that it is now PACKED with farang trying to pick up chicks and many have stopped going.

Used to go often to Hot Shot, not much of a dancer, their u got ur chair and ur just looking around sipping ur drink, enjoying the view. Last time I was there was Febuari and there were 6 ppl inside when I entered. Was this just a bad evening or is that place totally gone out of fashion?

That's because it doesn't really get started until midnight ..... I usually arrive at 10.30-11pm to get a good table, by midnight it is packed, mostly Thais, main show starts shortly after midnight and finishes about 1.30. I didn't go last night because of curfew. Best night spot in town IMHO.

What's the Thai word for anyone who has no trouble getting girls, but finds it a major challenge to get them out the door again in the morning?

My only complaint about Hotshot is the music and show hasn't changed in the two years I've been going - and it's bloody loud! I rarely leave there alone though or at least with some phone numbers

not trying to be difficult (well, maybe a little) but i wouldn't want to pass on any of my tips for places to go... i do my very best to avoid farang and love meeting new thai friends... never fails to amaze me how many people move to this amazing country and just hang out with money-grabbing girls and mirror images of themselves... pathetic, in my opinion

my personal suggestion is go forth and explore... get on your bike and see where you find yourself... there's so many great places to be discovered in CM, where you can meet and hang out with locals, although you wouldn't know it to read some of the ridiculous/ignorant posts on here!

I think White Russian meant 'Tawern Daeng'. It's on Nimmanhaemin Road Soi 6. Go up Soi 6 to the roundabout and take a left. It's about fifty meters up on the left hand side.

It's not my cup of tea, but there are lots of girls in there looking for a 'sia' for those of you who are interested.
