tpthai2
Travel warning issued for Thailand Posted 8 hours 8 minutes ago 3:30, Monday, June 7, 2010 The Federal Government has issued a new travel advisory for Thailand, warning of possible further violent civil unrest in parts of the country, including Bangkok. The warning advises against any travel to the affected areas of Thailand. Australians in Thailand are being warned to avoid prominent buildings associated with the Thai government or military, and are urged to pay attention to local media reports on any trouble in the country. bkkjames
What's the basis of this new advisory? Do they know something we don't? Do not travel to affected areas - what areas are those?
lectito
The travel warning is at smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Thailand . At the height of the riots (when the embassy was closed to the public) the level was "Do Not Travel". Shortly after it was downgraded to "Reconsider Your Need to Travel". It has just been downgraded further to "High Degree of Caution". The ABC is spinning that as "Travel Warning Issued for Thailand". The only areas now listed as "Do Not Travel" are Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla.
