Found this informative and more or less balanced opinion piece on Thailand's slide into chaos this past decade. The writer, who is affiliated with the USA based Council On Foreign Relations (East Coast Harvard-Yale business-friendly establishment view of the world) does a good job of hitting the major points in Thailand's seemely endless string of bad governence over the past years that has driven the country off the road and into a ditch. I tend to agree that it will likely take a number of years to tow the country out and get it back driving on down the road. However, it is not impossible as the Philippines and Indonesia were also in the not so distant past in arguably worse shape that Thailand is now and have made ernest efforts at reform and are seeing the fruits of these endeavors.
