Multi-Non Im "O"

Featured Replies

I've just returned from the UK with my latest Multi non-O Visa which is my 5th consecutive one since the age of 39yrs as im currently 44yrs, so far so good.

This year though, when i sent my application via return post, i received a phone call the following day from the consulate stating that i should have posted further documentation declaring either proof of age 50 or marriage to a Thai, which i could not provide.

I explained that im not married and only 44yrs old but have had 5 previous Non-O Visas issued to me by the very same consulate, which they could clearly see inside my passport and that i was travelling to Thailand in the next 6 days.

They explained that the rules are now more stringent with these visas and they would allow this one to go this time but to be aware for my next application.

I was wondering if anyone in the same position as me has had any similar feedback from Thai Consulates this year, (under 50yrs, single and applying for a Multi non-O)

For the record i also own property here in Thailand too, have Thai bank a/c and drivers licence, whether that makes any difference.

Any advice on what one should state when applying for this visa in the future as i've never had a problem before.

Which consulate was this? And on what basis did you apply for your multiple entry Non-O visa?

Seems following recent meeting between MFA and UK honorary consulates that rules around visa issue are tightening. Hull, for example, now requires name and address details of Thai friend to issue multiple entry Non-O visa on the basis of visiting friends.

The 'visiting friends' reason seems to have been tightened as follows:-

On the Application Form for “Evidence substantiating purpose of visit” write in “Letter confirming staying with family/friend living in Thailand attached” or “Volunteer Sponsor letter attached” or “Training Course Sponsor letter attached” and attach a copy of that letter to the Application Form.

The embassy website (Hull) suggests this was updated 01 May 2010 - they did not query my renewal (based on visiting friends) which was granted 27th May !?

Hull is not an Embassy and no Embassy (Consulate section) or MFA staffed facility will normally issue on such a basis. Visiting friends was removed as an official MFA reason for issue many years ago and only a handful of Honorary Consulates have continued to allow such issue. And they are now starting to require paperwork (most started last year or stopped doing).
