PM asks Thais to help mobilize reconciliation plan

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has instructed all sectors in the Thai society to gather ideas for pushing forward the national reconciliation plan.

Upon the official implementation of the five-point reconciliation plan today, PM Abhisit held a meeting with representatives from four main sectors of the Thai society, comprising local administrative organizations, academicians, the private sector and the media. He sought cooperation from them as well as all other sectors in brainstorming ideas for accelerating the reconciliation process in an effective fashion.

Regarding the arrangement of the next general election, the PM asserted that it could not take place unless a favorable atmosphere had been created in society. He thus stated that the exact date for the new election could not yet be defined.

PM Abhisit mentioned that public opinions were needed to achieve the restoration of peace and order in the country, noting that it would take a few more months to conduct a survey. He continued to say that the reconciliation committee would organize a meeting on 17 June 2010 to officially establish a mechanism for the reconciliation plan and to expedite the resolution to all lingering social conflicts.

During the meeting with the social representatives, the PM asked them to compile useful ideas for tackling various problems within two weeks. As a response, the private sector has confirmed its cooperation with the plan, especially in terms of solving economic disparities in society.
