Getting Us Dollars Using Your Us Based Atm (Debit) Card

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if you can walk into a bank with your USA ATM card and passport, and request $250 US dollars without going through the exchange of bahts to dollars and without a Thai bank fee?

They now charge the 150 baht that many people don't seem to mind paying. I for one use fee free Aeon or use my fee free atm cards.

But to seriously answer your humorous question, you supposedly can make a teller withdrawal of thai baht with a passport and atm card without a Thai fee so I was curious if you can do the same thing except get the money in US cash without doing a foreign exchange.

No you can't. And getting dollars is a hassle. Better to go to the Airport.

USD are freely available in neighboring countries.

FYI-

If you are near the Sukhumvit area, the exchange facility located at Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 on the East corner of the intersection has very reasonable rates. Cheaper than I have been able to find at the airport, over the years I have saved a good amount of money using this location.
