Thai Home Laundry

Featured Replies

I just went back to the US on a short trip.  While there, I did my laundry, and the clothes came out much, much softer and more comfortable.

In the US, I have a front-loading Whirlpool.  I used Woolite laundry detergent.

In Thailand, I have an LG front-loader.  I use a common store brand of detergent.  And my clothes come out sort of scratchy and stiff.

Is this most likely because of the machine?  The detergent?  Maybe the water?  Anyone have a clue?

Try the Comfort Ultra fabric softeners. Combined with Essance liquid machine detergent. two thumbs up!

Should you be able to locate an 'Oxygenerator'(?) , that makes a world of difference , water is to washing as it is to the taste of coffee , purity is the only way to go .

I sell and repair washing machines, it's not the machine it is either hard water, detergent/too much detergent, softner or using the short wash cycle.

Have to agree with james here with those fabric softeners things smell better and are softer.

I use the long cycle with the "fuzzy logic."

I never use fabric softener in the US, but I will try the Comfort Fabric softener and Essence detergent bkkjames recommended.

It is the dryer mostly and can be affected by various softeners as noted but without a clothes dryer like in the other world, the clothes will always be scratchy to some degree...laugh.giflaugh.gif

Nah, liquid fabric softener all the way. You have to use it here.

If you're not, that's 99% of the problem. The other 1% is not having a dryer but so what, less shrinkage.

I agree, in the US I have a clothes drier, and here they are air dried. I use Downy Fabric Softener both places, that really helps! Even my towels here, are not nearly as scratchy since I found Downey here. Plus my GF irons everything other than the towels, which makes my clothes look nice and seems to make them less scratchy... I also brought Cannon Towels from the US. They are much thicker and softer than any I could find here. Less expensive too.

As a gentle reminder... which I just read on the Downy Softer label... Fabric softners may increase the flammability of clothes. :)

I just saw the label a few hours ago. Enjoy!

Hi If you do use a drier you can also use a softener sheet in the drier too.

For example bounce

Woolite is a very gentle detergent, same as Stergene in the Uk - moslty used for hand washing. If you want the same in Thailand use the baby clothes detergents.

Softner is basically a wax, it lubricates the fibres, but as you have pointed out it does make clothes flammable. For those who only wash in cold water the softner builds up over time and causes problems, the occasional hot wash will clean it out.

Fabric Softener's are flammable? Surely there must be a warning on them.

"Using this product will make you more more at risk for spontaneous combustion."

Gary, I was thinking of getting into the old Maytag Repairman Profession, is it difficult to get a WP for this. :D

Fabric softner does make non flammable clothes flammable, it's not well known but this is the case.

I am currently in Australia winding up my business and moving to LOS in a few months. From then I will be living on other interests outside of thailand.

Will be just south of Chiang Mai, can offer tips but not planning on keeping up with the washing machine trade.
