The Young Ones

Kath and Kim is a bloody hilarious piss take on suburban Australiana.  I have the first two series on DVD over here, and it's VERY funny.

K & K is crap. I'm ashamed that it is produced in Oz.

I would rather watch my old Y.O VHS tape for the 500th time than watch another episode of K & K.

Neil:

I baked a cake because it's my birthday and I'm having a party and you're all invited because you're my friends or you just pretend to be my friends... Well, you don't even pretend to be my friends, in fact you all hate me but it's my birthday and I'm having a party and I've baked a cake and....

I also like the episode when Neil joined the police force. He gets called to come to the party after a complaint, bangs on the door and says "Open up guys! It´s the pigs!"

A hippy mate of Neils' then answers the door of the party and says "Come in Neil and take the tit off your head" (if I remember correctly) :o

"And watchout for the special branch"

(walks down the stairs and bumps head on the branch)

"I don't see anything special about that branch" Neil says

"I have a degree in astro-physics" the branch replies.

"That quite special I suppose" Neil replies

:o:D

How about the episode with the four horseman of the apocalypse.

"That's new isn't it?

"What is?"

"Microchip technology. That's quite new"

Then a huge ham sandwich falls from the sky into the house.

Insane.

Rick - "That's just typical! Five minutes before the most important party of my life and the house is destroyed by a giant sandwich."

Vivian : "Nothing like tea on the lawn.....Unless you're an Ant!"

One brief Ant skit later...

Vivian : " Do ants go to Discos? "

:o

Everything I knew about England back during the 80's when I was a kid I learned from "The Young Ones".

:D

Loved it, but tried to watch it again a year or so ago and it came across as very dated. Brilliant at exactly the right time but doesn't do time travel very well IMO. Faulty towers on the other hand will span the eons. Black adder 1-4 also brilliant, Red dwarf had some classic moments too.

Recently saw BA and last night RD on UBCs preview channel, CH#8. BA was hilarious but RD just didn't seem so funny anymore. :o

Boatabike is spot on. To me, the hallmark of classic comedy is whether it it still funny years later. I also thought Young Ones was fantastic when I was doing what they were doing, but re-watching them now is painful. This is heresy i know, but I can't watch Monty Python anymore without cringing either. It just comes across as silly, not inspiring.

Fawlty Towers - brilliant then and now.

Dads Army - funny then, brilliant now

Only Fools and Horses - it just gets better with every viewing.

I think the same will apply to The Office and Little Britain too.

In the Snot episode:

Mike walks in to Vivs bedroom with a fish in his hands:

Mike: "Whats this?"

Viv: " It's a fish, Mike"

Mike: " Oh , right"

Mike walks out again, comes bakc a few seconds later:

Mike: " I mean't to say "What's this fish doing in my bed?"

Viv: " It's not in your bed, Mike"

Mike: " Oh, right"

Mike walks out again, then comes back without the fish:

Mike: " Ok, got it this time - Whats this fish doing in my bed?"

Viv, Rick & Neil together: ' WHAT FISH?"

It was a classic short sequence thrown into the middle of an entirely different conversation!!
