Anyone ever been to a Wetsandon Festival in Thailand or know anything about it? Apparently it's a celebration of the Vessantara Jakata ("Great Birth Story") and used to be very popular upcountry. It took place at the end of the rains retreat in Central Thailand.

It's still very popular in Isan, where it's usally called Bun Phra Wet. Often combined with a bun bang fai, the festive firing of homemade rockets. One of the most famous variations of the celebration in Isan is Phi Ta Khon in Dan Sai, Loei, where everyone dons huge, brightly painted masks, brandishing wooden phalluses and ramwong-ing to live mo lam music.
