hansum
Ive got to do a visa run to Cambodia on Tuesday and am going to get an evisa to save filling up my passport. Im wondering is there a bus direct to the border from Pattaya and where can i get it from or what would be the best way of going about this. Cheers in advance. Jimi007
Are you on a 30 day entry permit, or a visa issued in you home country by the Thai Embassy? Look at the pinned treads about visas, You should be able to get your answers there.... But I think Sa Kaeo, is the closest border crossing. wobblyjohn
Pong Nam Ron province Banpakkad or Bang Leam is the closest as for doing it under your own steam I don't know but a bus to Chanthaburi would get you started, I expect you could get another bus down to to either crossing, Banpakkad looks like it is going to be the biggest judging by the size of the road being built
Bobr
It's easy until you get close to the border, then you have to follow small roads that are poorly marked. Suggest you take one of the visa run companies and let them do the driving. At about 2000 baht they're a bargain. Last time I tried to drive to the border was to take a friend to the casino there. I ended up on a small road that suddenly ended in a poppy field being guarded by men with big rifles or machine guns. The only time in my 5 years here I've ever been really frightened. eljeque
The above poster mentioned 2,000 for the visa servie and travel. 1,000 or so is the visa to Cambodia. Although not the closest, to do it on your own, here are two alternatives. Aranyaprathet (sp?) Bus to Bangkok and bus to Aranyaprathet Koh Kong, Hat Lek Sukhumvit Bus in the morning, about 6:00AM, opposite Lotus Goes to Rayong / Chantaburi / Trat Mini Bus from Trat to Hat Lek. Cross to Koh Kong station It is really better to take a minibus for about 2,000 than to do it yourself, unless you want to spend a few days at the border or trvel inland. Best of Luck. Evisa is NOT accepted at all crossing points! Poipet/Aranyaprathet is the closest to Pattaya that accepts it. Easy to drive to yourself if you have transport. There is a minibus goes everyday will pick you up anywhere along Sukhumvit, all the way to the boarder and back 260B each way. Have used 2 or 3 times very good, about 4 hours each way depending on pickups traffic etc. I think you will need a Thai speaker to book for you 0892459360
hansum
Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know of a visa run company that goes to (Pong Nam Ron province Banpakkad or Bang Leam) as after a google search it seems this is only 225KM as opposed to 350-400 for Poipet or Hatlek where most companies seem to go to. If anyone is driving tomorrow get in touch if you want someone to chip in on the costs.

On my Google Earth Sa Kaeo is not on the border, it is Aranyaprathet that is the border town. The border nearby Pong Nam Ron would be closer if Farangs are allowed to cross there. They weren't last time I went some 10 years ago.

I couldn't remember the name of the border town off the top of my head. There's a big shopping area out there...

Yes you can buy a visa on arrival. If you have already paid for a evisa on line though you will end up paying twice. An evisa is great, saves a page of your passport plus time, money and hassle at the boarder. Just need to make sure it is accepted at the boarder crossing you wish to use. Cambodia Inter go to Banpakkad for 1800 baht all in, (pick you up close to where you are staying at around 7am and provide lunch on the return trip) it costs less than everyone else but there is no TV on the bus so take your mp3 player Cambodia inter is located just south of the Soi Buakhow / Soi 15 junction
PattayaParent
What's needed for the Cambo visa at the Banpakkad border? Photographs? Passport copy? US$? THB? And re-entering into Thailand do you have to show your ticket out? Turns out I have to take someone to the border at the weekend.
