Next Question! Thank You guys for your patience

I intend to apply for a marriage extension in Chiang Mai at the start of July but need to go to Bangkok at the start of August

If I go say 5th July how precise is the wait for 1 month while things are sent to Bangkok ie will I have to go back on 5th August or is it less precise

Cheers

Normally it is 30 days - but sometimes can take longer - and sometimes ready early but do not expect larger office would expect you to come early (some of the small offices will try to be helpful and call when ready). Believe wife could pick up but probably not a good idea to be in Bangkok without a passport - and the idea of marriage extension is that you are together so might not be a good start to the extension of stay process if they make a visit, which they should, and you are not to be found.

I have a similar question in that I also intend to go to Chiang Mai Immigration, at the beginning of July, to apply for change from Retirement Extension to Marriage Extension.

Noting your comment regarding 30 days or longer. Do the documents - passport & wife's ID card go to Bangkok for the process? If yes, what happens for my 90 day reporting which is due on the 17th July.

Do you think that Immigration will accept photocopies of all of the required documents?

Thanks in advance.

Am I right in thinking Immigration only take the copies of Passport and ID during the 1 month consideration and let you have back the originals

Yes. You keep your Passport and Wife's I.D Card.

Ok Mr. Litebeer.

Just want to be sure I have this under control if you don't mind so sorry for the repetition.

Tomorrow is my last day at work. They will take the WP back tomorrow and bring me back a receipt.

I will head to Changwattana on Thursday AM with the Mrs / son and the WP reciept, two copies of marriage certificate, original marriage certificate, her id card, my passport (anything else I a missing?)

Do I need to ask for a 2 month extension or will they give this to me automatically. Anything else you can share on the procedure would be appreciated. Costs?

Cheers

That depends on if your permission to stay is still valid or if it expires tomorrow. If it ends tomorrow, you just go to immigration and ask for a 60 day extension of stay. If it becomes invalid because your job ends, you also need a letter from your eployer stating the date your employment ended. That is the day you have to leave Thailand.

Bringing the household registration might be a good idea too.

I got a similar extension some time ago at the Chonburi Immigration without waiting. I don't know what I paid, but I think it was a quite normal fee. We had to show all marriage docs and pics etc. though.

Sorry, I am a bit thick Mario. My visa extension ends in October but my WP renewal is due tomorrow (which I am not renewing).

The fee for any kind of extension is 1,900 baht and you're right. One should also bring photo's proving the marriage and living together. Including one outside the house with the house number clearly visible.

I guess it is based on employment, in that case you need to go to immigration tomorrow with a letter from your employer to cancel your permission to stay and at the same time apply for the 60 day extension.

As Mario said. Your permision to stay will end on the day your employment ends. Which will be tomorrow.

Apply for the 60 day extension tomorrow.
