What about UOB?

UOB now charges 150 baht too, unless of course, you have an account with them and are using their card in the ATM.

AEON is the only ATM system in Thailand that I know of that is not now charging foreign cards a 150 baht fee. I just used the one at Ocean Tower near Asoke on Sukhumvit 19 two days ago and it was still free. The exchange rate was on par with other major banks too. My bank in the US still charged me the out-of-state-non-their-bank fee though.

i just ask myself....

is it worth all this degree of aggravation....

for 150 thb....?

but i just much hate it too.... having to pay the 150 thb to withdraw a mere 20k thb each time....

in hkg.... i used to withdraw 100k usd equivalent in hkg currency in one stroke....

but in thailand i too have been restricted to only 20k thb max withdrawal per transaction....

it is insane.... but i won't let it ruin my life too much.... just make sure that i won't order edibles more than 20k thb worth of shark fins or bear claws.... each evening.... :o

I have a Fidelity (USA) Visa debit card. And pay the 150 THB at the ATM. I learned something amazing the other day - I can go to the bank and get a cash advance up to US$2500 a day without fees - on either end. Tried K-Bank and they had a 20,000 limit. But at SCB they let me take out up to my US set limit with no fee.

I found this out talking to Fidelity. You might check with your bank. Sometimes I'd rather pay 150 baht than go to the bank. But there's a US$500 per day ATM limit and if I want a few thousand dollars, that adds up and are more stops at the ATM. One trip to the bank and it's taken care of.

AEON have one more advantages than not paying the 150 baht fee you can take out 40K in one transaction so for me using AEON I save on a monthly basis more than 15K baht in Thai bank fees and withdrawal fees to my own bank for me its worth using AEON and they have a ATM at both Big C and Tesco here.

Who's aggravated? If you live near an AEON machine use it instead of another bank's ATM and save yourself 150 baht. Pretty simple concept really.

You used to withdraw $100,000 dollars equivalent in Hong Kong dollars from an ATM? Forgive me if I find this hard to believe.

HSBC doesn't charge a fee (at least not in BKK) and can be used with all other bank ATMs

Are there any Aeon's located in Chiang Mai?

Tesco on the Superhighway.

And, I think, Airport Plaza.

The Tesco at Lamai did not have an AEON ATM.

How close is the HSBC's exchange rate to the interbank rate when you use an HSBC ATM card at an HSBC ATM machine in BKK?

hi,

i stopped using atm's ages ago instead i go inside bank with passport to withdraw money or somebanks have a kiosk window with cashier.

money comes out of uk account with no 150 baht added - i'm fairly sure that the exchange rate is set by visa ?

http://www2.visaeurope.com/fxcalculator/

i'm with barclays and they charge £4.50 for each transaction so if you can with draw higher amounts less often, they also charge me 2.75 % so if you coming to thailand bring a nationwide card or post office credit card for overseas use they are only 1% and no extras (maybe post office charge more for cash ?)

Hi,

So now only AEON and HSBC do not charge the 150 thb fee ?

And it is really possible to withdraw 40k at AEON when ALL other ATMs are limited at 20k ?

Thanks.

Last time I used AEON I was able to get 40k. Very convenient. Things could have changed, but it's nice to withdraw from one ATM and walk across to the Bangkok Bank deposit machine and put it into my account there for daily use.
