Import Permit For Transmitter

Hi - I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this. I'd like to bring a an amateur radio trasmitter into Thailand and I understand from the Thai Radio Amateur Society that I need to get an import permit if i want to use it legally. Now to me this sounds like alot of hassle and a potentially costly exercise. I am goting to check with the Thai Ham Society, but I just wonderd if anyone had first hand experince here as it may not just apply to transmitters and may be of value to other restricted items being brought into Thailand.

PS Do I have to pay import duty - the radios is about 7 years old and looks kind of like a late 90's mobile phone

I'm not sure about the import but I have a German friend that bought one here. The problem was getting the operator license. It took him a lot of time and effort to get it. He will be back in Thailand next week and I will ask him about it.

Hi - I just wonder if anyone has done this ?

From what I have read, without an import permit the transceiver cant be used to get an operating licenece and it has to be a model on the Thai approved list. I have a feeling a 2m and 70 cm's dual bander wont be as operation in vhf and above looks very restricted in Thailand...
