Hi

I'm Korean and 25 years old

I've lived in Thailand more than three years.

Since I'm studying and will work at the same time in the country,

I'm trying to get Permanent Residency (or Certificate of Residence) in Thailand.

There is this student category which would probably last for 1 year.

but some sources call it C/R and others call it P/R,

and all specifications are slightly different. (in some articles, there's no 'student' category)

I'd like to know if these two are the same thing or different types.

cheers

Check it out with either the school you are enrolled, with your employer (who has to get you the work permit; you yourself cannot do anything) or the "one-stop office" guys; a service housing both immigration and labour division under one roof. All this has nothing to do with a certificate of residence or a resident permit. A certificate of residence is issued by either your (Korean) embassy or the immigration and is needed for obtaining a local driving licence or opening a bank account. The resident certificate actually is a passport-size blue booklet for non-Thais who have been granted the right to live continuously here in Thailand. You need to live in Thailand continuously for not less than three years and fullfill some other requirements (supporting Thais such as your children with a Thai spouse, working here with a minimum wage of THB 80'000/month, investing here etc. etc.); you need to be able to manage the language (verbally at least); full details you may obtain at the immigration department.<div>The Resident Certificate (this blue booklet) officially is called on its front page "Certificate of Residence". You've lived here for more than three years so a basic condition is fullfilled already. </div><div>If you are married to a Thai then the fee is just under THB 100'000; in all other cases the fee is double. This is an official fee against receipt. Go for it if you intend to stay here as it makes life really, really very much easier indeed. </div>
