Electric Bills

Featured Replies

Any one else seen a big rise in there electric bill over the last 2 months,a few of my friends have said the same, more than 2000b more a month and looked at my meter today and was going very fast and no one in the house and no electric on,apart from fridge!will see what happens this month and then give them a call.any inside info?

I'd say someone is tapping off your line.... and or do you actually see your bill or does the land lord, just give you an inflated bill ? ....

My landlord who was running several lines off my house for various things, tried to tell me "seasonal adjustment", several months ago (after water purify put in for benefit of all, & that is really jumped up the power bill.

I shut off the power to the house & showed him the still whizzing meter... I waved my finger & said not me! ( we had an agreement as to how much I would pay each month... flat rate & told him I would move out if he tried that again! )

Soon there after 5 new meters where put in... :Dsmart move!

All electric bills are left at my house for some reason, so I see what all 14 tenants are using, he's now increased everyone elses bill to cover the extra for water purification (but not mine!!! ) :)

no one coming off my line, and get the bill direct from electric company, and as i said a few people have said the same in boput and manam!

Seems to be a problem around the island, could really be because of the exceptional heat.

Rates have recently risen and I was told will rise at a rate of 5% per year for quite a few years to come

My electric bill in my home is always over 4000 baht and going up

There is an easy way to visualize what is drawing the most electric

First of all shut off your main circuit breaker box and you should not be using any electricity

Then turn on the breakers one at a time and watch which one spins the meter the most

For me Air Con # 1, clothers dryer close # 2, 50" Flat screen TV is 3, water pump 4, washer machine 5, PC with 24" flat screen 6

Something along this order when I test recently

About 3 months ago, additional charges were started to be added if you use over a certain amount per month from what was previously used for me the additional charges are adding 1200 to 1500 to the bill each month

Single stand alone 3 bedroom house

lowest rates are from 21:00 to 9:00 so i try to keep the a/c off until then and the othert heavy users like the water pumps as well.

have justed turned off main switch and checked meter, its still going around!but cant see that anyone is tapped into the cable, could the meter be broken?

While I have no idea of the washing/drying arrangements mentioned in the post from liveinlos, a clothes dryer seems to be an extravagance in the land of constant sunshine and gentle breeze. I once visited a woman in Dallas, the hottest and dryest area of the state. I asked her where I could hand out my newly washed bits and pieces. She replied that she would put them in the dryer for 30 minutes. She had no line to hang them on and indeed didn't know what a clothes pin/peg even looked like.

I use aircon (only one cassette) for an average of seven hours a day and my monthly bill for electricity is about 500 baht. I've lived same place for a year and it's never been over 650 baht. My landlady does'nt charge extra per unit.

will get the meter checked im sure it shouldnt be going round when i turn off mains into house!

Not really.

interesting post from roo however i think day/night electricity meter are like in europe special model that costs more and thus aren't much installed.

i pay an average of 500 baht per month and the rate is always 3.27 baht per unit, my bill from the electricity company doesn't show anything regarding day/night and different rates.

this can by quite serious. u might want a sparkey to check your line. sometime the line gets fraid and the to wires touch which genorated allof of electric. maybe your electric in your house will be the the same or might be less but where the 2 wires are touching the line is getting very hot and the meter will sspin like a mad man.

not joking but i know someone ( a thai ) that got a 80 000 baht bill. had to pay electric compnay don't care. the bill is the bill and they are not going to pay. might be worth getting a sparky out to check your line
