Krungsri online banking discontinued from 1 October 2025
Sorry off topic to Krungsri, but talking of UK banks' contactless PIN & Chip, I recently received a replacement card for my HSBC UK Debit (VISA) Card as the existing one had split. I tried to use it in an ATM to check the balance, but it wouldn't accept it. I spoke to HSBC UK several times and they suggested trying it at a POS, which I did, and it worked, but using the PIN, (it was for GBP18). Tried it again afterwards at an ATM, and again, no joy. Similarly with my HSBC Jersey Debit VISA card. Cannot use in an ATM here. Anyone else had the same issues? It's not that I particularly want to use the UK cards here, but I do want them to work when I attempt to draw cash at a UK ATM upon arrival. HSBC UK seemed aware of similar occurrences, but no solutions offered, other than issuing another card, (which would require setting up a new PIN...at an HSBC ATM machine, of which of course there aren't any here). -

Oh Koh Phi Phi, What have you become?
In 2002 mass tourism was very much there, and so were the touts offering anything and everything. Local mafia rules mean that the 20B needs to be collected on the island, and not added to the ferry ticket. Bear in mind that electricity on the island is more than the mainland, and getting (and keeping cold) drinks such as water costs more than on the mainland. Therefore, prices are higher. This is a sad but unavoidable case of somewhere getting too popular for its own good, and it happens all around the world. I lived on Phi Phi during the filming of The Beach movie, and ever since then its popularity has sky rocketed.
