How Much Did It Cost You To Paint Your House

Featured Replies

Just looking for some ball park figures, my house is quite sizable 150m interior flat roof, 3m ceilings (exterior walls about 4 m), single story. very square.

I know this is not enough info, but love to hear your numbers.

dual primer and dual exterior coats, toa 7 in 1

You should be able to work out the paint costs. ie: divide total area to be painted by stated coverage area per bucket = no. of buckets. Then x cost per bucket. Of course the coverage per bucket can vary widely depending on the person doing the painting. So, if you can do like one wall or section and see how it goes, you could narrow down from that. The price of paint varies widely depending on "quality", color, and where you buy so you should ask around for that.

For labor, you shouldn't have to pay more than 250 B per day per person.

If you contract the job, you might start with just one room or one wall - something that shouldn't take more than 1 day - and see how that goes before doing the whole house.

Cheers

Whatever you do, don't scrimp on the paint as you'll be doing it all over again. Went with TOA Supershield outside and although no real fan of them, it has really lasted well and is the self-washing type. Make sure they don't water down like 50/50. Think I paid 12k for labour for the exterior.

Big 10-4 on not going cheap with the paint, no matter how high quality a particular paint may try to advertise itself as. And don't thin it beyond the max suggested on the label. Be sure to do good paint prep work also, as the highest quality paint put over old paint that is falling off will just result in the new paint falling off a little later.

I used ICI WeatherMax Optima SemiGross (2 coats...and I did thin to the 10% added water max) on my yard walls/fence approx 4 months ago and it still looks brand new and the bird crap/bugs/etc., don't stick to it. As you probably now, a semigloss paint gives a hard finish which can be easily washed numerous times. I have a neighbor who used Captain Parashield SemiGross (2 coats)...costs about 70% of ICI WeatherMax...on his yard walls/fence about 6 months ago and it's not holding up as well and doesn't shed bird crap/bugs/etc., as well. The Parashield painted wall still looks good and sheds stuff, but not as well as the ICI semigloss...my ICI painted wall is the clear winner. I chose ICI after doing a bunch of internet research...glad I did choose ICI...I will be choosing ICI when I paint my entire house in a few years. You probably don't want a semigloss on your entire house but ICI sells the flat sheen also. Good luck.
