hey all

I have left a job that were sponsoring my Non Imm B visa. They have told me I will have 7 days to leave the country once the work permit is cancelled. Is this true?? Can they also take my Non B visa off me if it doesn't expire for another 6 weeks?

how do I go about changing from a Non B visa onto an Education or Tourist visa. Can this be done at the Laos consulate?

also my old employer is threatening to take me to court if I don't pay a large sum of money for visa costs. can or will they do this? where can I find out information.

replies asap would be welcome especially if you have been in this situation. thank you.

Do you have a one year extension of stay from Immigration or are you here on a 90 day visa entry? Makes all the difference.

If on extension of stay it ends the day employment ends. You must leave then or extend your stay 7 days with payment of 1,900 baht at Immigration.

If on a 90 day visa entry into country it has no effect on your permitted to stay time and you can continue to stay until the date in passport.

Yes you can obtain tourist visa in Vientiane at Thai Consulate - but education would require school paperwork.

As for legal action have no idea what you may have signed so can not even speculate but sounds like bad blood if you fail to reach an agreement.

If you are on extension of stay based on employment (received by immigrations) you have to leave the country the same day or get 7 day extension at immigrations.

If you are on a B-Visa (given by consulate abroad) it is still going to be valid.

Tourist visa you can get in Vientiane.

For ED-visa contact one of the sponsors on this page.

It is not unheard of for employer to ask employee to pay for extension of stay/wp costs upon contract termination, especially if termination has come from employee's side. The employer can of course make life difficult by not processing the paperwork for cancellation of the wp, therefore making it difficult for employee to obtain new wp for new employment within same catchment area. The OP may need to take that into consideration. Without knowing the full facts it is hard to comment further.
