I was all set to do my first 12 month extension based on marriage but have run into a hiccup.

My visa is valid until 30 July this year.

My current entry stamp / permission to stay is valid until 24th July.

I am going to be away from home but still within Thailand from 25th July to 25th Aug.

I was planning to go now and do my 12 month extension but found out that they dont issue the extension initially, you must return every 30 days for 1 or 2 times until they do issue it. As I wont be here from 25th to 25th that kinda screws that up. I am told they wont give a 60 under any circumstances.

My second plan was do a quick land hop now, while my visa is current, get another 90 days, make sure I top up my seasoning money so it doesnt drop under 400k and apply again in end aug or early sept, no rush.

But I was just told that its unlikely they will accept an expired visa even tho I will be on a valid permission to stay ?!?! I always understood it was the permission to stay and that the visa could expire and its that entry they keep extending ??

Is this hard and fast or is this an officer by officer.

For you previous sentence you visa has not expired so if a multi entry type you can exit anytime to obtain a new 90 day permitted to stay stamp. Immigration does not care if you visa is valid when doing an extension of stay (a single entry would have dies on entry) so that will not be a problem. Just make a border return before July 24 for a new 90 day stay and do the extension of stay later.

Thanks Lop.. Thats what I thought,

Just threw me as the one who told me they probably wouldnt issue an extension as the visa would expire is an immigration volunteer !!

Worst case if I have problems one more hop to Penang solves it also.

You should also not have any problems in obtaing an extension for 60 days based on "visit Thai wife"

Same documents are required as for 1-year extension but without the financial requirement. And wife has to come along to Imm.

An extension costs 1,900B. I dont know if a border run is cheaper for you to get the last 90 days stay based on your current visa.
