EU satisfied with Thailand's effort against piracy

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The European Union (EU) is satisfied with Thailand’s policy on dealing with pirated goods problems. Meanwhile, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) is seeking additional measures to wipe out the rogue traders.

Director-General of DIP Pajchima Tanasanti said the EU has praised Thailand for her efforts in suppressing piracy. The Customs Department, The Department of Special Investigation, and the police have joined hands searching and keeping in check markets where pirated goods are usually available. The search which has been proven to help reduce the number of smugglers is conducted every two years

The EU which regards Thailand as the core leader in protecting intellectual property rights, hopes it will be able to convince the country’s neighbors including Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, to give priority to preventing the costly problems.

However, Thailand still needs to find more effective ways to tackle piracy problems, especially illegal activities widely conducted though electronic transaction nowadays.

Well,it seems to be working as on 2 occasions I went to Tukcom Pattaya in the last week, the software vendors were shut

'nuff said. Piracy is officially over in Thailand.

It's like when the school inspectors come to your school. They tell you in advance and everything is usally rosie the day they arrive. It's backwards.

If Thailand was to stop all the piracy sales, i am afraid half of the police force and half of the shops will be out of business.

During the crack downs, items are confiscated and later re-sold back to the shop owners. Remember when they tried to shut down Patpong market(which is only fakes) sellers fought with police and then also lodged a complaint against police
