PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has announced it will cut off water supply to customers in Patong from 9am to midnight tomorrow.

The stoppage is required to allow workers to conduct maintenance work and install water meters on Phra Barami Road Soi 2 and the area around Suwankiriwong Temple junction.

Affected areas will include virtually all of Patong, including areas along Phra Barami Road, Rat U-Thit 200 Pi Rd, Phisit Gorani Road, Nanai Rd and Thaweewong Road.

The PWA apologies for any inconvenience and is asking residents to conserve and store water for use tomorrow.

Despite getting about three thousand millimeters of rain annually, Patong continues to suffer from chronic water supply problems year-round.

Much of the demand comes from the hotel industry.

Patong currently has 14,821 rooms in 264 "accommodation establishments" listed with the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Maybe there should be a building moratorium? LOL! Like that would fly with all the greedy people over developing Patong and other areas of Phuket. But seriously, there does need to be some regulation on the free for all over building on this island. It's already ruined the island and it's getting worse by the day. Building permits and regulations, what are those? Who's in the charge here? Certainly the government isn't. Money is... The damage being done to the environment now is way worse than the damage from the tsunami. The tsunami was the worst that ever happened to Phuket as it brought international attention and greedy developers in, with their land grabs, and buying off of officials...
