Traditional Massage Person Selection Protocol

Featured Replies

As I work out every day I'm in a routine of taking a traditional thai massage after. For the massage I've recently been going over near Kiss foods on sai song. Before I used to just take the next in queue but even though it is just a theraputic massage I don't want a guy or the biggest fattest woman doing the massage so I decided a while ago to always choose the massage person.

This is a kind of long winded example so I'll cut to the chase. Today went to my normal place where there is a normal girl who does the massage. She was out. So I picked another girl out front. She was massaging me OK, but I could tell (from the onset actually) she was really pissed off about something. Anyway, I finally asked her (in Thai) why she was apparently in a bad mood. After not anwsering me for a while she asked me why I like to pick the lady instead of going in the order of the queue - which apparently, at least to her, was some kind of bad protocall.

Kind of similar thing the other day where I went for a massage close by that place and picked a girl and they said she could only do oil massage, not thai massage, which may be the case.

Are you supposed to go in the order of the queue or what exactly is the protocall at these traditional thai massage places?

If you are a regular customer and it is a genuine Thai massage establishment then it is quite acceptable for you to choose your masseuse.

The missus and I do it every week.

Find a masseuse that you like (I usually choose an older lady with strong arms and hands, because they are usually more experienced and I like a strong massage vs a soft rub), then during the course of the massage ask for her name or number (massage lady number... not telephone number)... it is quite acceptable for you to choose her every time you visit... unless she is pre-booked by someone else.

If your massages are as regular as your workout routines, you could pre-arrange for her to be booked and available for you at a certain time.

BTW, the lady you had that seemed annoyed, had probably just finished a massage session with someone else, and was looking forward to a break with some food or something like that.

The same thing applies to foot massage.

Usually what happens is the first time you have your feet massaged it seems good and when you go back again it is either not done hard enough or hurts like h*ell.

Even utterances of `jep jep` only seem to slow the determined foot pummeller for a few minutes...and then back to the painful pounding.

So when you find the right person who massages you in the way which you enjoy and does your body good then you should be able to request that person (if there) every time you go.

If the establishment is any good this will not be a problem.

When in Pattaya I go to one of the oldest established foot massage spots...it`s called `First Foot` and is located along sai song about 150 meters from South Pattaya Road......The reclining chairs are new, you are offered cold water and the aircon is good.....one hour for 200 baht....I always go for 2 hours as I usually fall asleep after 10 minutes or so...sabai sabai :o

Normally they are numbered - request their number. They actually tell you this on the way out. Next time u come request my number!! Regulars are how they make their dosh. Else u get who's up next.

I think this is the other type of massage - where they have numbers. These traditional massage places they don't wear numbers and I always ask their name and normally request them by name again.

It does make sense they would want the return visit. Out of a 200 baht massage they get 50 baht. If they work all day and don't give a massage they only get 70 baht.

I guess that massage girl was just about to eat like jai dee said. It would have been nice if she said something, like 'I am just about to eat'. I could have just sayed for the entire massage, but I wasn't into having a pissed off massage girl massage me. So after the exchange where I asked her why she was pissed off and she said I shouldn't chose the girl just go in the queue order, I just got up and said fine, I have work to do anyway. She said she was going to pay for the massage herself (in other words I didn't have to pay anything) but of course I was going to pay anyway. I took out the 200 and looked around for her and figured that I would just stick the money on the counter, when she came over and took the money.

The usual reason for such upset would be that you have taken her out of her "turn" for only a Thai massage. If you had choosen the more expensive oil massage (which is easier to do and pays her more money) she would probably have been ok. Generally lots of newer masseuses don't like doing Thai massage and will often try to persuade you to have one with oil for the same reasons. If it is their turn, they have no choice, but to be taken out of order to do a Thai massage rubs a bit of salt into the wound.

Only have proper massages, no monkey business for me mate! :o

Same here... and even in the traditional massage places they all have numbers... may not wear them, but are certainly assigned them.
