I am about to post a cheque to a family member in a letter sent from Thailand to the UK. The cheque is for sterling from my UK bank account. Are there any rules about this? Do I have to declare it? I normally make all my payments electronically - so this is new to me ...

There is no restriction. Although I normally place inside a blank A4 paper when sending.
