Thai-New Zealander FTA takes effect

BANGKOK: -- A bilateral free trade area (FTA) agreement between Thailand and New Zealand has already been effective.

The Thai-New Zealander FTA officially took effect from 1 July.

Under the initial stage of the bilateral FTA deal, Wellington will reduce its import tariffs for first categories of Thai products to 0-5 percent.

They include canned tuna, frozen shrimps, processed cereal products, cosmetics, electrical appliances, glass products, plastic materials, pick-up trucks and machinery.

Reciprocally, Bangkok will cut its import tariffs to 0-5 percent for certain products from New Zealand, including food products, infant powdered milk, cereal products and wooden products.

The two countries have agreed to fully liberalize bilateral trade over the next 10 years.
