Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is a bit boring, unless you're a big fan of bas-relief stone friezes.

I liked the Bayon much better.

Everywhere else in the complex is falling to bits.

Ta Prohm, whose presence is predicated on its falling-down-ness, is quite nice.

I still preferred Pagan in Myanmar.

Moog -- I think when most people say "Angkor Wat" they're referring to the whole complex of temples and other structures in the area (e.g. BambinA's 40K butt burning excursion), rather than just that one structure.

Incidentally, nice photo, BambinA. I'd love it if you'd send e-mail the large version of it....

Pagan is nice, as well. But, they're quite different, don't you think?

Ankhor Wat (and all the rest of the temples) is truly a world wonder - nearby

Siam Reap is OK to stay in too.

It has the basic layout of a French country town complete with Grande Hotel, totally renovated, and railway station! Pop in the Grand Hotel at happy hour (4.00 pm?) and have a cocktail in the basement lounge - very colonial. Accommodation is available from backpackers too luxury Japanese Hotels.

To see most of it will take 3 days at least.

Take lots of US $1 bills as they like US dollars but give change in riel.

A good option to see the temples is to hire a man and motorbike at about $20 per day. There are other options such as the 2-seater motorbike rickshaws.

They seem to chop and change their minds as to whether or not foreigners can hire self drive motor-bikes there.

In Feb 2004 a three day pass to all the temples was $60.00 (If I remember right).

The public toilets dotted around were new and amazing, situated around lotus filled ponds and landscaped lawns!post-12660-1120454101_thumb.jpgpost-12660-1120454501_thumb.jpgpost-12660-1120454101_thumb.jpg

It looks amazing.  Anyone been there?

It truly is amazing!!

and yes, some parts are falling, and many temples are not properly restored yet, and will maybe never be, mainly due to large expenditure stealing done in the last century by various gropus (and nations).

Pagan is certainly worth mentioning it, but not comparable, and Neeranam's comment should only be taken as a joke - my guess, that's what he wanted to do.
