56 Years Young Educated And Wanting To Spend Time In Thailand

Featured Replies

I went to Thailand recently on holiday and loved it! I am reading about it all on the forum but have mostly talked to the blokes so now will chat to you girls. Have any of you girls been approached by a Thai person about investing in anything? I loved the Thai people and the shopping was great. Is it tough to get a teaching job or live in Thailand?

Age discrimination is a reality in the Thai job market. Work ads still display the age and gender requirements set for a job. It is depressing to see an ad that specifies it is only open to certain applicants based upon physical attributes rather than skills and education. It is why so many women have such a tough time with career advancement, particularly in the Thai business world. Unless the woman comes from a family that owns or controls the business, she is often relegated to clerical duties. IMO women have a better chance of advancement at multinational firms where there are specific policies in place that prohibit gender and age discrimination. The teaching forum provides a thorough discussion of the barriers older teachers face. You may wish to read it.
