Furniture To Specification In Thailand

Featured Replies

Have anyone had furniture made per their specification or had any experience regarding it? I am looking to get a closet made after drawings I have made in the dimensions H:170cm W:130cm D:60cm.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but I think it is fun to design things from the bottom and get them made.

Any recommendations or warnings? Would also love to hear some prices if someone have done the same earlier.

If you have a vanity desk in the middle, make sure the mirror ends a few inches above the surface,

especially if you want the mirror to open to reveal a cupboard behind.

Otherwise you will have to clear the entire desk to open the cupboard.

Consider a small draw inside a draw for keeping valuables out of obvious sight.

OP - I think you will have to reveal your location if you want any recommendations.

When I moved here about 5 years ago I had most of my fitted and free-standing furniture (including a fitted kitchen) hand made by a company in Pattaya (Mai Thai on Sukhumvit Road).

The owner of the company, together with my wife and I, designed each item.

I have been very pleased with everything they made but, with the benefit of hindsight, I think I could have got the same quality at a better price if I'd done a bit more research. Never mind, in those days I wasn't watching the pennies so much.

Price will vary according to quality of workmanship and (even more so) materials, and your ability to haggle. Good quality hardwoods are just as expensive here as anywhere else.
