True Visons Hdtv

What a disapointment it has been so far . World cup no English commentary of course , most of the HBO movies are not HDTV but just sdtv stretched to fit .

The sports channel programming is almost complete reruns of last years sports , last years NFL , last years NHL , last years Soccer still showing the French Tennis open weeks after it ended .

Mean while no golf at all , infact except for some UFC , I have not seen one live sports event since the world cup ended . True had an opportunity to attract a lot of new customers with the world cup in HD , but if they don't get their shit together pretty soon they will lose most of them . A complete waste of money and I will cancel it as soon as my contract ends .

Did you really think that TRUE would miraculously change their attitude towards their customers when they introduced HDTV . . . . . ! It was blatantly obvious from the start that the same problems would occur on the HD Channels, countless repeats of movies and bad quality picture (stretched to fit) nearly exactly the same as for the normal channels but with an extra price. I'm sorry that you had to find out the hard way! I know its hard to get away from TRUE here in Thailand due to the monopoly, but there are other options available. For me living here there is only one option and that is ASTRO TV, I get 8 HD channels with a further 2 on the way in the next month or so. Yes the initial set up costs aren't cheap, but after that all you have to do is pay for a yearly viewing card which works out quite a lot less than TRUE. And all legal by the way, look it up at any reputable satellite service installers

http://www.jsat.tv/satellite-packages/the-astro-network.html http://www.comsat.co.th/index.php?id=135 http://www.astro.com.my/epg/index.php?id=7 I wonder if/when this monopoly will ever be lifted here in Thailand to allow other companies to compete in the satellite TV market, then and only then will we see decent service at a reasonable price!!

Do you know if you have to buy their receiver like True?

I believe Astro now locks the receiver to the card, so the answer will be YES.

For other services you will have to ask.

The service that I am looking at, here in the Middle East, OSN,

provides the receiver as part of the setup deal.

I am just waiting until the PVR version becomes available.

I don't think I said that I thought True Vision would change their attitudes , however to be honest I didn't think that they would repeat sports event over and over again without showing live sports that they are showing on the regular sdtv channels .

The only thing that I was interested in watching from True was live sports on HD but they of course have managed to botch that as well .

I don't want HBO movie channel much as I download higher quality mkv TV and movies from the net , so really I just wanted to watch some live sports , that's about it .

I live in Chiang Mai and there is no Astro here as far as I know or believe me I would not use True .

You are looking at about 30,000 baht, depending on the package you choose with Astro.... the initial out lay is high, but assume you use for three years, you then save. (by my calculations).... I read somewhere here it is cheaper to get the new years' subscription in Malaysia, rather than a local reseller.

Picture quality & sound, is much better on all channels, not just the HD ones. The radio stations from KL are good, several just in English... & good variety of music!

Reception on the NG & History HD channels, goes first, in the event of heavy rain.... Also from what I have read the Astro signal fades out , around BKK, so you may want to check it out first.... Here on Samui it is fine.

The drawback if you have a Thai Wife, there is nothing broadcast in Thai... that might cause a bit of trouble & strife.....:annoyed::lol: oh no, no soap operas! :bah:

Those you can stream from the Thai TV's online streaming channels. Works quite well as their servers are in Thailand and most ISP's have decent local bandwidth.
