Hi..

For a US Tourist Visa for a Thai..

I understand that the US Embassy will expect to see regular savings into a bank account with.... (and here's the question) HOW much money in it to be reasonable.? (- even if the trip is really being financed by someone else..)

I've heard an amount quoted they they expect to see about 500,000 baht... 12,500 $US sat there..!

Surely this is unreasonable to expect a young Thai to hold this much..??

Even I don't have that much savings at all... and I travel all over the world..!!

Compelling reasons to return to Thailand. That's the key for everything that she (not you) does to prove she will return to Thailand, not stay in the States. The more she can add up to show she and her family are well off, that she is well educated, that she is gainfully employed in a professional job, the better her chances.

Good luck, but remember statistically 40% of all visa applications submitted to American embassys world-wide are refused. The bar is set much higher for Thais.

There is no set number. What they are looking to see is a good salary going into the account every month over time (not just 500,000 baht, say, stuck into the account right before the interview) -- coupled with more than enough savings to pay for their trip.

Hmm.. Interesting. ! The US State Dept claims it's only 1 in 4 refused..

:o

Tourists Drop in Numbers to US

and they claim they are trying to be more lenient.... Tourism is down 25% in the US due to the perception of "Fortress America"

Ok gents, lets try this. I am an american working living in Japan, and would like for my Thai GF to meet me in San Diego during a business trip. Any thoughts on getting a visitor visa. My GF is currently in college and does not have alot of savings. Ideas, please.

Regards.

I could use similar advice. I want to bring my gf to Hawaii for a week or so vacation. She runs several of her own business, typical Thai style, nothing "official" (not pay taxes), but I can easily prove I will pay for whole trip, in fact it will be prepaid. Anything special I should do? Do these "Visa Services" really help?

i DO know that you cannot "Sponsor" someone else's travel/expenses to the USA. The Immigration doesn't want to hear it... and will ignore any such letter or proof.

Unlike the UK, where you can.

...there is one way around all this bank account bs... impregnate her...better yet, marry her first, then impregnate her. When the baby is born, register him/her with the US embassy for an automatic passport/citizenship right. I don't see how they could refuse the girl then that her child (and child's father) is an American citizen no matter how much there's in the bank accounts.

I agree, looking at the bank account is BS, they're only promoting the rich to visit the 'land of the free/opportunity'. Most Americans I know are too tied up in house/car bills/payments to provide a 10,000 USD$ bank statement.

With average US monthly salary ranging from 800--2000 USD, and (unsubsidized) rent running anywhere from 600-1500, on top of car insurance/payments, and other costs of living, it's amazing how many still manage to save enough to make it to LOS. When I did it, I had to stay with friends nearly rent free, without a car responsibility/burden..and even without all those financial burdens, I was only able to save 2000 USD in like six months. I could probably do better than that now in LOS!! :o

US Migration Policies say to me: It's not ok for foreigners to be poor/financially unstable on American soil, but as far as Americans....who gives a S#*t!!
