Dengue fever infection toll in Surin hits 1,500

SURIN (NNT) -- Over 1,500 people in the northeastern province of Surin have been infected with dengue fever in the latest outbreak which kills one boy.

The latest victim in the province was a 13-year-old boy who was sent to hospital too late and died from a shock. The infection rate has risen to 200 per 100,000 people in the city area while that in adjacent districts is lower but continues to increase. The spread situation is expected to be more serious than last year.

The provincial hospital has asked the people and concerned agencies to help clean up breeding sites of house mosquitoes in order to control the spread of dengue fever. People are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they are suspected of being infected.

This is almost an impossible mission being that Feng Shui and every other fortune teller has told every Thai household to put a small pond or water vessel in front of their home. They should look to Africa were they used a specially bread male mosquito that was infertile to drastically recued the spread of mosquito born disease.

All hospitals in Chiang Mai have at least 40% of their bed capacity taken up by patients with dengue fever and the toll seems to be rising. The local authorities are not doing much about it and l have not seen any health warnings issued by Embassies regarding advise to tourists visiting Thailand. Is it a cover up as Thailand recovers from the "red shirt" protests and the fact that tourists are returning.

Without a reliable reference, this is just hearsay. Not saying you're wrong. Only that with no reference of any kind, this may as well have come from Khun Noi's mae baan...

not the best news regarding the ELEPHANT ROUNDUP in November, which will celebrate its 50th birthday this year.

hope those Mozzies will already be gone to Nirvana in late November, when it can be VERY cold in this province at night already
