Can't give you any real figures but this is the low season so should get good deal on the other hand the price of fuel has gone up a couple of times recently so that will be an excuse to up the ticket price. TIT (This is Thailand) :o - Shop around they want your business. Good luck.

Bus/ferry is around 350 baht. Ther's also the sleeper(bed) train. Around 550 for the train and 250 for transport from Samui to the train station near Surat Thani.

From Bangkok train station, you can buy the combined train(sleeper bed)/ferry ticket for around 750 baht.

Those prices are for air con. Knock at least 100 baht off for fan cooled.

Believe train prices have gone up since then.

Raja Ferry runs a bus from the South Bus Station (govt bus) to Koh Phangan (ie you get on the bus in Bkk and get off in Koh P) for about 800 including the boat (you buy the bus ticket in bkk and the boat ticket when you arrive at the port in Surat Thani). Or you can take the cheapo Khao San road buses for probably around 450 baht. I am not sure on the prices as they have all gone up in the past month but expect everything to be a bit higher than it used to be.

Hi

The Government Thai busses are more expensive than the Farang ones from Koh San Road. Yea! Really, the only case I know of where the locals pay more Farangs. The local overnight busses are very nice, the one I used had nice young lady attendant that served free refreshments and hot coffee/tea with refreshing wash cloth in the morning. If I remember you can even get a 24 seater that’s a bit more expensive but has a single row of seats down one side which is nice if you are traveling alone.

The Farang busses are all a/c and I think they have done away with the cheaper ones and all are now VIP. The advantage is they take you from the KSR so you don’t have the extra cost of taxi to southern/northern bus terminal. Disadvantage is that they all seem to have different levels of customer service some the staff are really nice and helpful whereas others seem to regard us as an intrusion whatever it is they think they ought to be doing.

Another thing to watch out for on the Farang busses is theft. I thought it had stopped or at least been reduced but talking to some travel agents in BKK the other week it still seems to be rife. Not only is there a chance of them going through your bags “downstairs” they creep around when everyone is asleep and pick through your handbags. Be sure to keep your really important stuff especially money right on you. Tape it to your stomach if you have to.

At the end of a journey the tourist police used to come aboard (don’t know if they still do) to ask if everything was OK. Unfortunately their English was not too good and as most people were still half asleep they were mainly ignored which is a pity because they really are trying to help.

Before you get off the bus check your things especially the money. Count it, these people are not stupid they don’t always take it all so a quick check will make you think it’s all there only later you think “Hu! Though I had more than this” :o

If you long time in Thailand, like the people, speak a little Thai and don't worry too much about the odd couple of hundred baht go for the goverment bus

Enjoy :D

I prefer the govt bus. I have had several nightmare trips on Khao San road busses with drunk farangs who are ###### bent on getting every last bit of party out of their holiday (one particularly obnoxious group was a group of drunken Brits on their way to Phuket).

Also, theft is a problem. As well as frequent bus break downs on the way. They then charge you more to get on another bus (different company I guess) just so you can reach your destination. Not that it happens all the time but I hear it often enough to put me off taking a Khao San road bus.

Don't know if I agree with Govt buses being more expensive than the private ones.

Last time I checked it was between 90 to 100 baht to go to Pattaya using the Govt buses. Also Trat(for Koh chang) and Ban Phe(for Koh Samet) would be cheaper.

Possibly, it's the longer distances that can work out cheaper.
