Planning a trip by land to Angkor Wat this week with UK based family.

Just realised that on re-entry to Thailand at Poi Pet, I think they will get a 15 day passport entry stamp for an entry by land. However, they are not planning to leave Thailand for a further 21 days.

Currently they have been in Thailand for 10 days on a 30 day stamp.

Appreciate any suggestions on best options:

- can they seek a 15 day extension at immigration in Bangkok when the 15 day stamp expires or must they exit Thailand?

- what are the implications of overstay by 6 days, if they want to return to Thailand in the future?

- they will probably visit Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai following the trip to Cambodia. Can you get another 15 day entry stamp if you take a day trip to Burma or Laos

Appreciate any other suggestions/border run locations, bearing in mind that they would prefer not to fly if possible.

The most they could get from Immigration would be a 7 day extension.

Any entry by land will get a 15 day stamp.

If you are driving and do not mind the journey then a trip into Burma via Mae Sai [extreme northern border] would give them another 15 days, and an extra border stamp. There is not a lot to see, but it is interesting to see borders at least once, or so I think. Usually the other option would be Mae Sot in the west, but that has been closed for about a month by Burma, sorry Myanmar.

Alternatively cross into Laos, but that is more expensive, especially for a party.

The 7 day extension would also take care of the 6 day problem, so you will be OK.

Take the boat trip from Siem rieap to Phom Phen and get a tourist visa, free at the moment.

Is Mae Sai open at the moment?

Only the Mae Sot border is closed.

Hi, can you explain me where is the closest border to MYANMAR from CHIANG MAI ?

Is it the one that is closed now ?
