wow, some bad news for Singapore port immigration department. I really feel for you and your GF.

I'm a US citizen and worked in Singapore back in 2007' and also had a Thai girlfriend at that time in which she visited me almost every month via AAsia without any single incident.

I don't know if I made the difference by working there with a access card privilege, but things must have gone bad there recently..

There's a bit left around the reservoir and on the west coast, but they have been perfectly happy to cut it down whenever they want to build a new residential area.

I don't mind the place and have at times looked for work there, but it's not that exciting a place.

This unfortunate missed or refusal to entry for a Thai fiancée and aggressive behaviour to teach lessons from officers are the ways Singapore is choosing to become as ever the " city sea state " one said " we love to hate " ( love no more ).

The banking has become a dangerous private and corporate exercise as well because they are arrogantly superior for no reasons, they are not good enough to accept to be caught making errors they do so often always to the banks interests and better to avoid any one.

They contact you to ask to activate your account and fund them with more funds......they cancel without warnings facilities and the reactivation is cumbersome.

Singapore is becoming like some one said " acting crazy before to be destroyed "....two casinos....official lack of family creation.....money money money is a killing addiction they are all suffering from.

Hotels are playing nasty games, upgrading without customers consent etc.... restaurants are mediocre, shopping other than during sales is not exceptional.

Critics are not allowed publicly.... there is no Government opposition and always conflicts of interests of all kind..................

Trying so hard to try to perform they simply fail to achieve happiness for the people locked in........taxis drivers are very representative of the situation.

An ego trip is definitely for Singapore a trip going to nowhere.

It is a smart few hours stop over basically ( Bangkok is also very smart ) staying in the terminals in transit with their airport so much bigger than the country itself.

After 30 years myself visiting on a regular basis trying to act locally however the past 3 years I have reduced it to its minimum in hours numbers not even in number of days.

I guess a technical reaction is in the process with the ageing after 5 decades since independence of their Founder.

Out of 4 millions populations only Chinese Singaporean are ruling ( oil and water do not mix you often hear ) and not representing more than 1.4 millions.

Singapore dreams to be better than Hong Kong, Switzerland but they can not.

Beware supposed to be a niche it has become a grave...................I have myself survived to fall into many of its traps.

I'm not the bad guy here, I'm a business traveler with a Thai girl as a fiancé. My Fiancé has traveled there twice before without a problem.

In the op you say she was not provocatively dressed but sexy. Perhaps best to have her dress conservatively when crossing borders in future as, especially with Singapore, this in itself would be a red flag to immigration.

Next time you go to Slumapore, make sure your girlfriend wears something like this :

Taxi drivers are not too shy to open up and tell you how the country is, most other people you come into contact with are not too open about the fact of life here, which is, a closed shop to most.

This is down to the fact that you are only with them for short periods and anonymous.

Personally I'm not interested in applying for PR status, which would be reasonably easy for me to obtain. As I have said, I'm only here for the job and schools and not to stay indefinitely.

Since I got married to my then, girlfriend - fiancee- common law wife or what ever you wish to call it, life with immigration has been no problem here and certainly helped in Thailand.

Have to agree with Will27 @ post #87. I don't think you did your GF any favors.

However am sorry that she was treated so terribly, and I can certainly understand your anger and frustration.

ps. I guess Singapore is out for your b'day next year then.

Not just Thais, but from many countries. Look at those sweet young China girls with local men in their late 50s hanging about at People's Park.

Flies will come when you fill the buffet table faster than food can be eaten. How else can a nation's population be increased 30% over a decade?

You behaved like a raging bull....cursing and swearing at all thing Singapore...acted like Singpore belongs to you demanding this and that....if only you behaved in a civil manner maybe you would know why your girfriend was denied entry..

Singapore tourists arrival estimated 12-13 millions a year..and I don't think they need a tourist like you...

Wake up man...Singapore is a first-world country... :bah:

@chuang - read the post, never cursed or did anything other than object to the goons handling my fiancé like a murderer. If anyone can sit there and be civil while your Fiancé is man-handled, good for you. If anyone can remain in line while your Fiancé is removed and brought to a interrogation room, good for you. I think all of us who have Thai significant others going to Singapore know now what has the potential to happen now. That was the purpose of my post. Don't get a hotel room unless it can be refunded. Try to get a letter of entry if possible for your Thai significant other. Wear conservative clothes (not that my fiancé wearing anything provocative), and I agree keep your cool.

At least others reading this now know what to expect if they do take your significant other. Much of the anxiety that can happen when your loved one is taken is the unknown. Now after you have read my story you know what to expect. It's a bummer if they deny, but cooler heads will always prevail, I agree with that fully. At the time watching the goon grab my girls arm made me a bit hot. And then her attitude to tell me to get back in line. No I didn't like the treatment.

Also their English was horrible, and they failed to explain to me what was going to happen. A simple sheet of paper in English handed to me would have been nice. Surely if they are refusing that many girls a day they can prepare something to tell the people they are traveling with what to expect and where to go.

They really seem to enjoy what they were doing to the passengers, I stood at their counter and watched them with other passengers. I don't like their Customs agents, and others have posted a problem as well.

Thanks for sharing will remember when deciding where to go on holiday.

Some would say its a way better to have a nicelooking wife than to be assured of entry to Singapore. The shoppings great but i know what id choose. Please keep us updated

What is stopping Thai immigration from doing the same to Singapore Girls? An eye for an eye.

Why would a Singapore working girl who gets paid in Singapore

dollars want to come to thailand and get paid in Baht?

That's why the Thai girls go to Singapore my friend, not the

other way around.

Agree with you on the part about coming to Thailand, and disagree with you on the part about getting paid.

Singapore girls prefer their fun in Singapore, quite a number with angmohs, and would be insulted if money is offered.

This is a big issue with the Singapore guys...and, hence, China girls come into the picture...

each Singapore male is allowed to sponsor or to pimp 5 ladies and Thai are their favourite but a lot come from Mainland China, Indonesia,Malaysia.

Pity Thai ladies seem to think they can fall in love and become rich over night..... the nature of this business is the result of the Singapore

locals demand for sex under bogus restrictions.

Gaylang is sad to visit but in my opinion similar to Amsterdam.

In other words an horrible back door story of Singapore.

The Thai press regularly write about this horrendous present similar to slavery fact of local to Singapore ( often trapped to make always more money to cover running costs as well as so bored with their own life ) life.

Singapore has a major prolem with thousands of Thai prostitutes especially in the Gaylang area....shouldnt tarnish all people the same ut that is the reason why.

Wow....! So "every Singaporean male is allowed to sponsor or pimp 5 Ladies..." where did you get this information? If this is mis-information, do you not think you are carelessly tarnishing a nation's reputation?

"A horrible back door story of Singapore"...I think every nation has their "red light district" - I'd like to know one that doesn't.

Posted

I think what brd means is that a Singaporean is allowed to act as the local sponsor for foreigners that wish to extend ( or enter ) on social visit pass, ligitimate employment ( not pimping....can you imagine putting that on any imm form? ) studying, family , etc , etc.

Not sure how many individuals one national can sponsor though.

Geylang ( not Gaylang ) is a bit of a hole ( no pun intended ).

Singapore's history was started as an international trading post, so some of this legacy is carried along with it, its just the way it is.

Message to the op.......Why don't you just get married to your fiance?

Makes all things immigration 100% easier also.

That was my point. As a foreigner living in Singapore, I did not encounter any local "working" girls. And why would we need to find them when we can meet up with quite a few local "non-working" girls?..:D

Ahh, but did you notice that the OP stressed that his wife is "sexy"!!!! Perhaps , you are homely?

But seriously, perhaps you do not have a problem because you are a university student or are employed in a respectable job?

:cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Are you serious? The type of visitors Singapore rejects are the type of people one sees hanging around the low end districts of Pattaya, Bangkok & patong . Thailand caters to the tattooed yobs of the world. Singapore does not. I don't think "Singapore" girls go to Thailand quite the same way Thai girls go to Singapore :whistling:

Posted

@geriatrickid for the record, neither me or my Fiancé have a single tattoo, not that tattoo's should have anything to do with the character of someone! Really, with a comment like that you are going to make this thread go to 10 pages. :yellowcard:

I have little doubt that there was a communication problem and it is possible that the OPs anger or concern may have adversly affected the outcome. The question is who is to blame the OP or the apparent lack of professionalism in the commununication of the potential problem to the OP. They should be trained to know that their actions can cause concern and know how to handle and defuse the situation. If the refusal was even in part due to his reaction this further indicates a lack of professionalism and impartial application of the rules.

Fiancée = female partner

Fiancé = male partner

sorry for being nitty gritty but when I read your first post I thought you were a female talking about a male. Until you mentioned her sexy body.

After 7 years, why are you two not married?

Posted

@Patsycat thanks, well it's my auto completer doing the typo about Fiancée (never gave me the option of male or female :) ) thanks for the tip

I was already married once before to a Thai for 10 years, I was not in a hurry with my assets and everything else to put it at risk without preparing properly. Now with all the VISA problems, and the convenience of a VISA for myself as well in Thailand, I have decided to proceed.

I know very few Thai's that are able to get a 10 year USA VISA without marriage, and I was really happy to be able to get my Fiancée one. But now I think I should have just done this 4 years ago or so and did all the premarital agreements back then.

My friend just got married and did the same thing, we met our girls at the same time. Really I don't think it's that odd if you are older, maybe young couples like to jump into marriage. The older and more marriages you go through, the more you understand the financial obligations of a failed / successful marriage are.

Look, I'm sure you are a decent fellow and your lady friend is a good hearted lady that you love deeply. The reality that probably was, is that you had a bad day and the immigration officer was having a bad day. Together your bad days met and created an unpleasant event for you. Immigration officers can be jerks and they can be decent. It all depends on who you get. It is unfair to blame all of Singapore because of one event. It would be like me condemning all of the USA because immigration at LAX have no manners or competence. There is nothing that you can do except wait a year or so and then revisit the subject again with the Singapore government. Time often helps. In the meantime, let this go, move on and visit elsewhere. Life is too short to worry about a little city state. I always enjoyed Langkawi for a get away. Borneo's Kota Kinabalu is also a nice romantic spot for a couple days.

Posted

@geriatrickid I have stated it before, and I'll say it again, the goal of the post was to alert those of us with Thai significant others of the profiling they could be subjected to when traveling to Singapore, and remember I sat at their counter and watched the goons in action, the hard time they gave a European girl for having an "old" passport, and the other Thai girl for traveling there "too much", there were others.. I should have checked everyone's story.

Others have backed up what I experienced. I have stated obviously I'm not blaming Singapore as a whole, in deed it would have been my 3rd time there. They have changed since the other two times I have entered, and if they want to be selective that's their right.

But others like me with Thai significant others be warned, try to get a letter of entry, don't make any non refundable hotel reservations, and don't loose your cool if they man handle your girl. You now know what to expect. If others can learn from my experience, then I have accomplished my goal. Did I mention that Hong Kong is much better? Macau Venetian is amazing. Yea I think I did, but what the hel_l lets go for page 6.
