Can anyone recommend where to go on a Sunday afternoon.

Prefer the Chalong/Rawai area which has a social club like atmosphere.

We are not into the bar scene but like good company.

Hi

I stay home Sunday to many people around, Nikitas or Friendship beach is fine Sundays, dont think the price is that bad in Nikitas

and overpriced for what you get, been quite disappointed both times i've gone there.

I looked up Nikitas on google and if there prices are the same as on the internet there is no way it is expensive.

We will give it a try one Afternoon/evening this week.

I have given Nikitas a chance about 6 times in 2 years in Rawai, i have no idea why people go there apart from the nice seats by the water. I have never had a good meal there, on more than one occasion it was burned. The staff have been unfriendly and unhelpful, when i ordered manao soda and recieved a tonic water once i asked again for the manao soda and said sorry. The waitress got an attitude and returned to give me a lecture about how to properly order a drink of manao soda before then going to get the drink i actually ordered.

i won't be going there again, the only reason io gave it so many chances was the amount of people i see eating there, i think "it must of improved" but i am always let down.

flukieireland - i agree, the food is seriously sub-standard - i'm baffled about why so many people go there.

i didn't say it was expensive.. however, the food is CRAP, and therefore it is "over priced for what you get" which is exactly what i said in the first place =)

Nikita.s now have there own kitchen .

For eighteen years they did sell the sub standard food from Ban rimlay next door to them .

I know the owner and they were really pissed of at there old deal but now it has all changed for the good

I here now they have there own lease and have put in a new kitchen and the food reviews seem to be good .

sit on the side of the road for a 40 baht beer or sit on the beach for a 60 baht beer .

I think I've heard a few folks I know go to Fatty's up closer to you Peter for a Sunday afternoon meal. I've been there once or twice, not on a Sunday and the food was good. I can't remember exactly where it is. It's on the right of Fah Chao west just past a bridge on the right before Wine Connection. Someone may have better directions and information.

Cheers, Jimi

It would be great to have a place on a Sunday afternoon where you can meet some interesting people.

Having some food & drinks, what's the problem to discuss if the beer is 10 Baht more or less???

Fatty's is good, but I don't think it's a Sunday afternoon place to have a drink and be sociable unless it's somehow drastically changed since the last time I was there.

I would be interested in an occassional quiet Sunday drink if a venue can be agreed upon.

(something other than the Freedom bar would be good  )

Like Gerd I'm not too worried about a few extra baht here or there.

I'll have to call an old friend of mine about the details. But a group of mostly English older guys used to go to Greenman on Sundays and it took a turn for the worse. I haven't even tried Greenman now in years and I have a discount card there from years ago. So, they went looking for somewhere that would do a ham or a leg of lamb and yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes etc. I think Fatty's took them up on the deal. As I said I haven't gone and they may not do it now. I'll try to remember to call my friend and ask him if it's still going on. I think he also mentioned some Irish place at Jenceloyn (sp) that had a good buffet on Sundays. Ham, beef, sausages, etc. But, I really don't like going near Patong unless I have to... I'll have to get back to you on the subject.

LOL! HD, I remember you thought it wasn't bad for a 700 Baht hamburger too. You can get a filet mignon at Norbus' for not much more. Just giving you a hard time! Glad you enjoy! smile.gif

You think the same as me, that's what i am trying to find to.

I said Sunday because that is better for people who work.

Wassana who opened/closed Cloud NIne has opened a

Pub/restaurant in chalong i will check it out, i have been told

its quite popular but does not open until 6pm

We went to NikitasYesterday day afternoon.

The view was great, the staff friendly but seemed tired.

The boss(joking) had Thai food which she enjoyed so it must be good.

I had a super burger which was average, i have yet to find a place that

serves good burgers here.

The meal a watermelon juice and 2 beers came to 600 baht plus

tip which is not expensive.

There were a few people there but i only heard them speaking

Russian and French and i think they were tourists.

We will go back again but its not what i am looking for.

Checking the Internet it says Fattys is on Chaofo East Road opposite Land and Houses.

Is that still correct or have they shifted to new premises..

Yes, still there. Opens about 12.00. Let us know if they still have the huge slobbering dog on it's huge chain. That really put me off the first (and last) time we ate there.

You are right. It near the Chalong Gym, I'm told. I called my friend and asked the details, they start serving at 12:30 PM on Sundays. That's a bit early for me to eat a large meal and I guess they finish when they run out. I may have to go try it at least sometime. It's been a few years since I've been up there and I had forgotten where it was. And Livinginkata, you are right about the dog, it was there when I went a few years ago.

Last time I went he was still there, I've played a bit with him(or he with me).

As you know I am a dog lover too but this kind of dog in a restaurant is not a good idea...

Two people have said they are interested and there are probably a lot more.

Its a matter of finding the right location without a dog, somewhere with a good

atmosphere that would suite the majority of people.

I am going to check out one in Chalong which i think will be suitable and i am

sure other people will know other places.

If enough people are interested we could meet one Sunday a month, i believe

there may not be a lot of people in the beginning but if people enjoy themselves

it wont take long for word to spread around.

Good food would be a major factor as well... Let me know when you find somewhere.

I could not find fatttys, either i need a blind dog, its not where i though it was, or its shifted.

I checked out chu restaurant on the way to Rawai and do not think it is suitable..

Nakitas seems the best at present, any more suggestions.

Is it worth giving the Green Man another go?

It has location, ambience, parking, drinks.

If the food turns out to be crap at least we would be together to discuss the next move.

That's not a bad idea.

Like you i know some of us think Phuket and Thailand is a great place to retire to.

The Green Man would be great to start with then we can take it from there.

I am not interested in the bar seen but somewhere to take my partner to and she would feel comfortable.
