I had a look at the website and with translation help from my gf it doesn't sound all that good to me. For 55,000 THB you just get ingredients and supplies - no shop location etc. You could set up at a market for the deposit alone , and with most franchises , you need to buy supplies from them at inflated prices. I personally don't like franchises because i believe that if you follow the script it will stifle the incentive, but i was never very good at following directions. Franchises are good for some tho . But if i was you i would give her 5000THB to buy the Som Tum ingredients and get her a market stall . Not a big investment if it all goes arse up and NO CONTRACTS that will catch her out.

Just my opinion of it .

I believe you get supplies, there special "som tam" recipe etc a couple of days of "cooking" lessons as well.

There are apparently 35 outlets, so they must be doing something right.

Unfortunately , my Thai reading skills are almost nil so there may be other advantages on the web site but i personally have never been fond of Franchises as i have always set up any of my business from scratch and i have seen a lot of friends have hard times with franchises even when the business climate was favourable.

A good location with no other Som Tum sellers next door and a reasonable price may be the go. if they can assist with location then it may be okay .
